We spend 10 days at the beautiful place. Irene took care in a really personal and very nice way. The huge garden, the nice and clean rooms were perfect for us. We enjoyed the special breakfast with fruits from the garden, the fresh macademia nuts, the beautiful surrounding of this highly recommended BnB lets us come back for sure.

Our stay here was amazing, truly a five star experience. That said, let me tell you what the Lava Tree is NOT- it is NOT a fancy resort catering to mainland tourists who expect bellhops and a ritzy uptown vibe. If that's what you're into, go to Waikiki. What it IS - a beautifully built and maintained rural Hawaiian home... More

Stayed there in June 2015 for two days and really enjoyed it. The lady owning the property is very welcoming and helpful in giving all sorts of information and tipps for the stay on the island. Breakfast with fresh fruit from the garden and eggs from the owner's chicken and lots more was fantastic. The rooms are lovley evendough a... More

The Lava Tree Tropic Inn was a totally unexpected and unique place! Comfortable & clean room, beautiful grounds and delicious breakfast. Owner Irene is also a unique, warm and friendly person. We are truly sorry that we don't live closer. We would probably become good friends. PS - It's not easy to find so be sure to get explicit directions.... More

It was VERY beautiful and relaxing! Fresh fruit from the property for breakfast and the owner is a very nice/outgoing lady. She is very helpful when planning things to do and is very knowledgeable about the island. The property is a little hard to get to but VERY worth it!! I'll be back

If you are an adventurous person, like us, loving the outdoor activities, if you are looking for a home like nest, you can launch your trips from, than this B&B is the perfect place. It is conveniently located not far from Volcano's NP and minutes away from the best snorkeling places on Big Island and surrounded by tropical bush. It's... More

For 9 months I lived in the Puna area on an off-grid farm. During my tenure both my parents came out on individual visits, and refusing to rough it with their daughter in a oceanside barn they booked their stay at Irene's, where I accompanied them overnight and for breakfast. Just reading the M K's "Chicken Poop" review I had... More

To say this is off the beaten path would be putting it mildly. I rated this very good because we seemed to make a connection with Irene and this place and accepted it as an adventure in a different kind of place. When we got there, we were able to join in with the Friday sing-a-long group and it was... More

As an airline pilot who practically lives in hotels, I've never run into a hotel owner, manager, or employee as rude as Irene was to us. She has a way of getting underneath your skin. Our room and shared bathroom were comfortable and clean. However the hostess, Irene, made us feel uncomfortable from the moment we walked in the door.... More

Let that title set the tone for the rest of this review. I read these mostly positive reviews expecting to find a tropical inn nestled in the heart of paradise with a lovely garden and a charming innkeeper. What I found was something completely different. I really wanted to give this place a chance, but TripAdvisor needs to have accurate... More
