Unique, fun, and quirky. (And the castle matched the owner!) If you are looking for a glamorous, "sanitized", place to stay then go find a large hotel/chain where every room and staff member look the same and you risk being treated like a number. Not to mention the possibility of thieves visiting your room while you are away. This place... More

Wow Alice, Mahalo for taking the time to write such an in-depth review. I am grateful to hear it. And excited that you will return, missing you! We had such fun. It is gratifying to know after your previous trips to paradise that didn't go well - that I was able to make this trip memorable! I too felt like... More

You'll know by now that this place is off the beaten path near the end of the road (thanks to the lava flows which are still active only less than ten miles away) on the east side of the island. It is a quiet place full of interesting characters (check out the Farmer's Market on Saturdays in the 'SPACE' just... More

The Castle is a great getaway- clean, neat and off the beaten trail. Serenity of the waves crashing lull you to sleep from the carriage house or the suites. Near Volcanoes National Park and the lava viewing area in Kalapana off Rtes. 130/137. My sons and I stayed 2 weeks in the spacious Carriage House from 7/26 to 8/9/12. Hammock... More

I really wanted to like this location, but unfortunately it was a total flop! I read old reviews that said this was a great place. IMHO, those reviews are DATED! If you look at the most recent reviews, this location gets very lows marks. I now see why. This place has BIG problems. Not worth the money at all. I... More

I noticed this review with some dismay. While it is true that we had two couples staying in both suites recently at the same time (they came together) and the hot tub did not work, for which I was deeply embarrassed and saddened… I questioned the authenticity of this particular review for a number of reasons. Well of course, first... More

I recently stayed at the castle and all is not well. The location is outstanding, but the place needs some updating and repairs need to be made. The pool and hot tub weren't working, the fan in our room was broken and remained broken throughout our stay. The bed was comfortable and the outdoor shower was fine, but the kitchen... More

Mahalo for your review, we welcome your comments and apologize that the hot tub wasn’t working during your stay… the pool “works” - you just jump in. For anyone who doesn’t realize that a home located only hundreds of feet from the ocean, let me state here, there are always things that will “wear” down due to the tremendous amount... More

The view from our room and the terrace was spectacular—a 10 out of a 10---but there was nothing relaxing about being woken up each morning somewhere between 4:40 and 6 by the clomping overhead (the owner’s residence). The bed was very comfy and we enjoyed being able to make our own breakfast and sit and look at the ocean. The... More

Mahalo for your comments and review. Clear and direct feedback is very important, and I appreciate the opportunity to improve. I’m sorry you waited until you left to say something, otherwise I could have corrected the problems immediately and tried to make you more comfortable while you were here. Let me apologize for the “clomping”… The dog was the culprit... More

My 9th trip to the islands & mostly rentals. The Castle is the most unique! Much planning & expert craftsmanship went into this 'home!' John & Sheri are friendly, excellent hosts. Sheri is vibrant & on the go but makes her home, your home. Relaxing breakfast on your private lanai overlooking the ocean or out by the pool is wonderful.... More

Our stay at the Castle In Hawaii was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Felt like a king in my castle. Sorry Sheri had to be out of town, but John was a wonderful host. Great view, Great swimming spots of all types near by. Lots to do. Will come back more than likely.

My husband and I went to HI in Jan 2010. We were graciously received at the airport by Sherri. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets, wonderful day trips, our hosts went out of their way to make our stay effortless! We have traveled extensively and have never been to a place as beautiful, romantic and relaxing as the Castle. Exceptional service, excellent... More

M husband and granddaughter and I stayed for several days at this Castle in Hawaii. Complete with drawbridge and a dungeon...it was a fun spot to enjoy the Hilo side of the Big Island. The room was large and Sheri & John, the hosts, were wonderfully helpful and attentive without being omnipresent. We had use of a great kitchen that... More
