The room was clean and that's as much positive things as I could say. The bamboo room was extremely small with minimal storage. We checked in late, but had no trouble getting into the room. The bathroom had a great size shower, but no where to put any toiletries. We woke up to a prepared breakfast and was quickly greeted.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Volcanoes NP amongst other things. It was great! The owners are very nice, the room (Bamboo Room) was fantastic, the bed was comfortable, there was airconditioning in the room, the bathroom was really spacious, enough towels (also beach towels) and the homemade breakfast was outstanding. It was also nice talking to the... More

My husband and I brought my aunt to the Big Island to celebrate her 85th birthday. What a wonderful surprise to stay at the lovely Ala Kai. Our rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable and our time on the lanai overlooking the ocean will be a forever memory. Our host's were warm and welcoming and the breakfasts each morning were... More

My daughter and I stayed at the Ala Kai toward the end of April 2015. We wanted to stay on the Hilo side of the island while we explored the volcano Waip o valley and the water falls. We were very fortunate to find this B & B. Our hosts, Pat and Mary were very nice and accommodating. (Especially when... More

This is a lovely B&B. The host is very sweet and accommodating. And the cat, Shakespeare, is a lovable big ball of fur. We stayed in the attached upstairs bedroom with private bath. We had sliding glass door access to the lanai which wraps around the whole house. We spent most of our time there seated on the ocean-view lanai... More

We were pampered by very gracious host's who looked after our every need. Everything was provided in order to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The scenic views from this location were breathtaking. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting this part of the island.

My wife and I took our two kids (6yrs and 8yrs) to the Big Island last week. We went to different parts of the island and made a point to visit the Puna district. We stayed at Ala Kai. We arrived a bit early, calling Mary to ask if we could leave our bags and get some towels to visit... More

We made a brief stopover here, arriving in the afternoon and leaving the next morning. The B&B was fine for this purpose: clean, comfortable (air conditioning was welcome), tasty breakfast, friendly hosts. What is not immediately apparent in this undistinguished subdivision is the extraordinary oceanfront access across the street. If you go left, there is an endless stretch of flat... More

We just got back from 3 nights at the Ala Kai. Our experience from the start to finish was wonderful. The hosts are very caring ladies and gave us great recommendations for places for dinner. The breakfasts that they made us were the best...always fresh fruit, a protien dish, juice, a variety of teas, coffee, etc. It was also very... More

My daughter and I had the 2 room Aloha Suite for a one week stay. Awesome location with a killer ocean view from the lanai. Gourmet breakfasts every day and great pool to swim in. We went to the market and got hamburger meat one day and fresh fish another day and grilled it on their grill. Met quite a... More
