If you're looking for a "home away from home," you certainly hit the jackpot when you choose Ala Kai! We visited for a week at the end of March, staying 4 nights in the cottage and 3 nights in the Aloha combo room (main level of the house). The cottage was roomy with 2 bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen) full... More

My sister, brother-in-law, and I stayed at Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast for two nights. We had a private area with two bedrooms. There was a large bath just for our rooms. The bath was filled with all the necessary amenities. Each room had overhead fans and air conditioning. Pat and Mary are warm and friendly hostesses. We slept well... More

Ala Kai Bed & breakfast is really hard to find as it is hidden in a settlement somewhere outside the city. Once you made it, you will find a very welcoming and maintained place close to the ocean. We rented the cottage, which was excellent and really comfortable! The breakfast is nice and you are placed together with other guests... More

Mary and Pat are great hosts, and made sure we had an awesome stay. Breakfast was yummy and plentiful, and the view from the lanai made it taste even better. We stayed in the Bamboo Room; it was roomy and comfortable and the river stone shower was very luxurious. The pool is clean and refreshing after a day of hiking.... More

We were traveling to the big island to visit a friend and get away. We stayed here for only 1 night, but would have loved to stay longer. This B&B is nice and tucked away from all of the business of any towns, but close enough to Pahoa to grab dinner or groceries. We stayed in the bamboo room and... More

We stayed with Mary and Pat on the second week of December, 2013. The B&B has a small cottage behind the large main house. We stayed in the cottage and found it to be very nice with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and one bathroom. We really liked having our own house while staying in a B&B. The kitchen was fully... More

The Big Island is friendly, relaxed and very comfortable and so was Ala Kai B&B. The best lanai on the island to eat breakfast with an ocean view -- in all weather. Pat and Mary took great care of us and happily confirmed our tours and gave us the best directions to all the hidden secrets. You will need a... More

We rented the cottage at the back as our first stop in Hawaii after a long flight out from the UK. Mary met us after 9pm when we arrived and made us very welcome. The cottage was the perfect choice, allowing us not to worry about disturbing other guests when waking up in the middle of the night as we... More

To be fair, please read the comments of this review. Maybe some of the problems we encountered are no problem for other guests, so I try to give a detailed review. We stayed in the vacation cottage which is placed behind the main house for 4 nights. It has a carport attached where it was quite convenient to park the... More

Absolutely fantastic place. I traveled with a friend (in June) and we both loved the place. Convenient location to the magical Volcano and lovely village of Pahoa. Pat and Mary were (are) both so sweet and always ready to help you (yet they were not invading your privacy). Pool area was nice and the scenery towards the ocean (from the... More
