we picked this place because it's close to the county lava viewing area (about 20min drive), the Volcanoes National Park (about 30min) and Hilo (about 15min). Puna, the surrounding area, has interesting places to explore such as the volcanically-heated pond. the location is a bit obscure but we got very easy-to-follow directions. we had two wonderful nights here and experienced... more

We decided to split our stay on the big island between both sides of the island. Because we wanted to maximize our time at the volcano we decided to spend two nights in Hilo. While searching for lodging we came across the Art and Orchid B&B. Located in Keaau, the Art and Orchid B&B is the perfect starting point for... more

This is a fantastic B&B with very warm hosts who welcome you and are willing to answer questions and make suggestions if asked. Our flight arrived long after check-in and Markie made sure we were settled and knew where everything was located. They serve a great breakfast and the entire place is spotless -- a major plus if you have... more

What a marvelous vacation destination! The B&B is so comfortable and charming and the grounds are a lush tropical garden providing fresh fruits, avocados and eggs. They are tucked away in a quiet, country setting, yet minutes from restaurants, beaches and anything else you need. The owners are delightful, generous people and the breakfast each day was lovely! They even... more

A wonderful experience. It was almost hard to leave to go out sightseeing each day; it was so peaceful and just a wonderful place to hang out. It is set in a lush jungle setting -- a little off the beaten path, but well worth it. Markie is the hostess with the mostest -- genuinely warm and welcoming, and very... more

We spent five days of our honeymoon at Art and Orchids and enjoyed every minute of it. The property is back off the main road a few miles and in the middle of lush forest so that all we heard at night was the singing of tree frogs. Our room (the garden room) was large, well thought out, with unique... more

We stayed in the beautiful Garden Room for our 5th wedding anniversary. Markie and Jerry were great hosts. The home sits on 3 acres of lush forest with many fruit and flowering trees. We enjoyed easy access to Pahoa and the Puna District as well as the B&B amenities. We appreciated the jetted tub in the room, the shared hot... more

I stayed in the Orchid Room. I wasn't quite prepared for the intense humidity but I got used to it after a while and rather enjoyed it once I got used to it. I liked having a DVD player in my room. I watched a few of the movies that Jerry & Markie keep in the common area for guests... more

The location is good for visiting Volcano and Hilo area. They provide a basic breakfast (nice granola) and some equipment. The place is clean and quite, and our stay was nice. You will be bitten by mosquitos, although all the nets are in a good condition. Also, the kitchen is in the common area which is inconvenient. Nice overall. more
