we stayed for a week and had a wonderful time, the rooms are improved with the remodel, we have stayed here several times before the earthquake-mandated remodel and enjoyed it but the remodel made the whole resort much better. We really enjoyed the wine tasting area in the evenings, buffet breakfasts in the morning, and the beach is one of... more

Mauna Kea is the most amazing place! After being closed for remodeling it has opened with more flair, and pizazz then before. My husband and I have been visiting the Mauna Kea each year for 22 years. The beach is best in the world. I spent hours in the ocean. The golf is over the top and very challenging...the staff... more

I have come to this hotel for many years, it has re-opened having been remodelled after an earthquake a few years ago. It is the same wonderful hotel....only better!! The new oceanfront rooms ( now a room and a half) are fantastic. The bath is beautiful marble...just gorgeous! The staff is so friendly and kind - it is unlike any... more

After 5 nights on Oahu, our visit to the Big Island was more what we expected as our "Hawaii experience". And the Mauna Kea was a perfect fit. The architecture, setting, landscaping, views...all beautiful. Service was good- just a bit oblivious at times. The best word to describe the resort: "wow". We must have said it 50 times as we... more

This vacation was so great that I begged my husband for 4 more days- I couldn't bring myself to leave! The location is peaceful and beautiful and in some strange way the hotel does not get in the way of your enjoying Hawaii, as others can do. Manta rays at night, sea turtles during the day, great snorkelling, fantastic stars... more

This was the first time we stayed at the hotel since the renovations. The rooms are much more comfortable, and the hotel has the same vibe it had before. I give the hotel beach a 10 for snorkeling (lots of fish, eels, turtles). I highly recommend Rowena in the Concierge office. She was excellent with scheduling all our adventures and... more

in spite of the renovation, sadly the service was terrible. the rooms are a bit better .(we've stayed a number of times over the years) But a number of the men at the beach had a nasty attitude. ( the girls at the beach were sweet). The food at the Monett was good as was the service. The room was... more

This was our second stay here and the first after the property's recent renovation. We had a wonderful week. The service is impeccable. The rooms are fine, certainly not overly plush, but it's Hawaii --- what are you doing in the room anyway? Food is outstanding throughout, but expensive. The hotel currently is offering many different packages and promotions, be... more

This is a wonderful resort that dates back to 1965, but has aged gracefully. The beach is supreme, the staff top notch and the architecture a classic. HOWEVER, although the new rooms are clean, well appointed and have much better bathrooms (although with horror lighting), some idiot made the decision to remove the ceiling fans in everything but the ocean... more

We were lucky enough to be upgraded here after booking the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel - which was great as it was our honeymoon! We stayed in one of the Plumeria beachfront rooms and it was gorgeous - spacious with stylish furniture, a huge bed and lovely toiletries. The whole hotel is spacious and airy, with gorgeous grounds and a... more
