This was, without a doubt, the best vacation my wife and I have ever had...in part because of the Mauna Kea and it's staff. We're always sad when a vacation comes to an end but never before had we been sad about leaving a hotel. more

We are one of the families that can say that we have been going to Mauna Kea for over 20 years. We had ages 7-88 years old. My grandmother (who is the 88 year old : ) stayed there when you could only get there by dirt road- before the resort was completed!.). Even after the remodel, the hotel and... more

We had a large family group consisting of 3 college age kids and a 6 year old. It was a great time for all as the beach at Mauna Kea has something for everyone other than the very accomplished surfer. There is a gentle break for the little ones as well as snorkeling and paddle boarding. There is only one... more

Reopened after lengthy renovation. Stayed here with spouse on good discount for Hawaii residents. Renovation well thought out and well done. Room was nice with good amenities. Location with accompanying beach was superb. Staff was extremely helpful and courteous and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. Only comments less than "Great!" were related to: Our first evening we... more

My husband I just returned from 10 days at the Mauna Kea at the end of May. Having been frequent visitors at the Four Seasons, Hualalai, we were a little worried that Mauna Kea might not live up to that standard. However, that concern was completely unfounded as the Mauna Kea has the ability to compete in that class. We... more

We had reservations for the partner property, Hapuna Beach. We arrived there and were greeted by "Oh. You've been bumped." It was an odd introduction to Mauna Kea. We found the reception staff at Mauna Kea aloof and vaguely unwelcoming, but once we were shown to our room, things immediately changed. A wonderful young lady gave us a tour, answered... more

Grand hotel with a posh, understanded elegance. The hotel itself is a 60s modernist structure that is a landmark for it's integration into the landscape with many open-air vistas. The renovated rooms are top quality (Frette linens, very comfortable mattresses and furniture). We stayed in a golf-vista room which had a bathroom the size of a standard hotel room, also... more

This hotel has always been a family favorite, I try to stay whenever I can - joining friends in Maui or whatever. You're not just paying for the room, it's the ambience that makes the place and always has. The beach, the manta rays, the garden, the koi, the lanai, the mountain behind you, the serenity, those birds... It's a... more

I have been a Mauna Kea guest for more than 30 years now and I keep going back because it has the best beach and best climate on the island. However since it was purchased by Prince Hotels of Japan over 15 years ago the overall quality has been steadily going down each year, Prince Resorts clearly has no idea... more

Our family of four enjoyed the renovated Mauna Kea Beach Hotel very much. The building is beautiful, the beach is magnificent and the rooms have been redone and updated very nicely (note, the rooms vary in size and if you get the internet specials you will assigned to a smaller room). The staff were without exception gracious, friendly and helpful.... more
