It has been 10 years since our last trip to the Big Island and we were dismayed by the growth in commercialism and the mega resorts. Puako B&B was a pleasant surprise and a glimpse of a rapidly disappearing Hawaii. Located in a little quiet little village off the main highway, the property is located close to some of the... more

After 5 days at Kona's Four Seasons Resort, I checked into Puako which was filled with a homeful of new and interesting friends. It was overbooked. But Punahele, my excellent host provided a next-door space that was larger than what I had reserved and at no additional cost. He was an ideal host and could not have been more accommodating,... more

Puako is one of my favorite spots on the Big Island, near some of the most incredible beaches on earth as well as interesting cultural sites like the Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site and the Lapakahi State Historical Park‎. Paul's pretty home is situated near these areas and is landscaped beautifully and decorated tastefully. However, upon arrival we noticed a... more

This B&B has an excellent location. Although very close to the resort area, it is secluded in a traditional small village in the Puako shore. It is very quiet in the night and the sky is amazingly bright with an excellent view of the stars and the milkway. There is a small grocery store at walking distance and a few... more

We were visiting the island during the airline bankruptcy ordeal (2 in a week!) and after staying at several resorts and another B&B on the island (we like to explore), we've concluded that the Puako B&B offered the Hawaiian experience of Aloha. When we arrived, Paul offered the kids the gear we'd need for our stay: boogie boards and snorkeling... more

I recently stayed at Puako Bed and Breakfast...The owners are wonderfully hilarous guys with style, manners and great coffee. The place was so clean and comfortable...It has a lot of history being that it was the childhood home of one of the owners. Puako is so much more authentic than the dominating big name hotels that choke the shoreline...There is... more

During our trip to Hawaii, we stayed at a handful of places from a resort on the beach to quaint bed and breakfast lodgings. Puako BnB -- was the best place. With it's Hawaiian traditional decor - and native Hawaiian host, the whole place was extremely clean, private, and secure. Our host was constantly caring for the home and the... more

We booked one night at Puako. The B&B is in the childhood home of the owner (Puna). Each room is basically a room in his home. The room we had overlooked the front of the house and had it's own sliding door entryway and bathroom. The breakfast was a selection of fruit, ceral and bagles. Unfortunately, the view is being... more

We stayed at the Puako B&B because our friends live just down the road and their place is too small for another couple. It worked out fabulously. Our room had it's own entrance and we came and went as we pleased. We also had our own little deck to relax on. The breakfasts were tasty with fresh local fruit and... more
