My studio unit is clean & pleasant, I enjoy the ducks & geese, haven't seen any rats here & only a few small roaches. Hey, it's the tropics! Management & maintenance do a decent job of keeping the grounds tidy & amenities running smoothly. There is some noise at times, so I use earplugs or headphones, no biggie! Waiakea Villas... more

What can I say? My present stay has been a fascinating study in dysfunctional behavior. There are three studios on the third floor in building #8 in which the tenants offer a classic opportunity for a case study in abnormal psychopathology. Ah yes.. there is no better way to experience psychological phenomena other than the emic, the ideographic, thick, paradigm... more

This place has both long term and overnight kind of place. Mostly it seems longer term on studio-or one bedroom apartments piled up on top and around eachother and all round a central court yard where a small pool fills with laughter in the afternoons when school lets out .... Think Hitchcock's "Rear Window" meets "Hawaii 5 0"....There is wildlife... more

Most people had it good when moving to big island.I did not.Initially a co-worker had let me stay at his place for a few days.Did not have enough time to find any apartment.Stayed at a insect ridden rat infested room in a house for severaly months, then decided enough was enough. Moved to Waiakea Villa. Not only is it more saner, but with... more

Aloha, I stayed at Waiakea Villas in Building 1 from June 04 to Feb 05 while by home was being built in Hilo. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Waiakea Villas & the local phone company allowed me to have a phone /DSL line installed prior to my arrival. There were no problems with the installation or... more

I have lived at Waiakea Villa's on a 6 month lease. This was the most horrible 6 months of my life. Their was no cold water in the morning so you would have to take scalding hot showers. I also made numerous request to get it fixed and managment did nothing. Sometimes they thought it was funny. The ponds are... more

I don't understand why everyone is so scathing. I live in the villas and I am very pleased with it. So far, I have only had to call management to fix my hot water regulator and my oven and both times someone was there in fifteen minutes to fix it. Try finding that at any other apartments in Hilo. I... more

Rental choices are few in Hilo, but this aint one to put on your list. This place opened in the early 70's . The buildings show alot of wear & tear from rain damage. On hard rainy days & nights this place has numerous flood & leak problems. I had my very own private waterfall leaking from my 3rd story balcony ceiling... more

I was a former female UH-Hilo student staying here 1 year ago.I never known this place to be a hotel. My stay there lasted only 3 months ( on a 6 month lease) because I felt unsafe. The walkways & parking lots are dark to walk thru at night.Weekends are very loud from customers going to night club. Employees start... more
