Fabulous historic house near Hilo Bay. Accomodations were excellent. Our bedroom on the second floor had its own private bath. Breakfast on the porch overlooking Hilo Bay was delicious including fruits grown on the property as well as home made corn bread and jams. Barabara and Gary made you feel like one of the family and shared their home and... More

zOur 3 night stay at the Shipman House was one of the most satisfying and nourishing Bed and Breakfast experiences we have ever had. As we crossed the small bridge onto Reed’s Island, our adventure on the Big Island of Hawaii turned into quite a magical experience! From the graciousness and hospitality of Barbara Ann and Gary Anderson and their... More

Staying at the Shipman House Bed and Breakfast was the highlight of my family's trip to the Big Island for spring break. Our family of 5 stayed in the spacious two bedroom guest cottage that also had a large screened porch. We woke up to see a jungle of trees at our windows and to hear birds chirping. At night,... A delightful restored historic home, full of beautiful furniture, artefacts and treasures, each with its own particular story. Wake up to a breakfast of delicious morning glory muffins and other goodies. Very comfortable rooms. Lovely grounds. Barbara can tell you its full history and will make your stay memorable.

Staying at the Shipman House was a beautiful "Hawaiian" experience. The entire house is decorated in Hawaiian artifacts and antiques. The house, my room, the bathroom was extremely clean! The room & closet were large compared to other bed & breakfast houses I've stayed in. The grounds are absolutely spectacular with tall palms, tropical foliage and are next to a... More

This is a lovingly restored Victorian B&B owned by a direct descendant of one of the first owners of the home. The rooms are large and comfortable; the breakfast was top notch. Our only complaint was the 10 a.m. check out time; a little too early even for early risers like us. We would have appreciated an extra hour to... More

We are just back from two wonderful nights at the Shipman House in Hilo, Hawaii. The inn is a gorgeous Victorian Mansion, perched on a hill above Hilo Bay. It is set in a quiet, residential neighborhood, surrounded by five acres of lush rainforest. From our room (more on that in a minute) we could see only the ocean and... More

Shipman house is advertised as a living museum and also as the place where Jack London stayed and Liliokalani played. While most of the house is indeed a living museum, the room we stayed in sported a faded 70's Hawaiian print bedspread, a ragged looking chair of the same era, and a cane couch that had long since lost its... What an amazing place to stay!!! After reading all the wonderful reviews from Trip Advisor I booked my stay at the Shipman House. The hosts, Barbara and Gary were so kind and gracious. Barbara gave me a fabulous tour of the house and told me about her family history, a history she was so obviously proud about. This house is... More
