We were coming from the more typical Hawaiian resort Kona side before coming here. Shipman house belonged to the current owner's great grandfather and the house is steeped with history, family furniture, portraits, china, antiques, art. The garden is lush and provides the morning tropical fruit platter (guavas, papayas, lychee fruit, egg fruit, water apple, pomelo). Being on the edge... More

Staying with Barbara and Gary in their home was a five star experience. The historic mansion is exceptional and lovingly preserved/restored. The porches are lovely for breakfast or reading during a jungle-y rain squall. Staying here feels like a piece of Island history Barbara and Gary themselves are wonderful hosts. We had wonderful conversations with them and our fellow guests... More

We always prefer to stay in B&B's and Shipman House represents everything great about this style of accommodation. The home is unique and full of history and the rooms large and comfortable (we were in Aunt Clara's room) with lots of access to shared indoor and outdoor rooms and verandah's as well as an extensive tropical garden - we ended... Stayed here for 3 days w/ my wife & we were glad we chose The Shipman House. The hosts and the guests are very interesting. The breakfast was outstanding with all the different local, fresh fruits & local foods, done very well. Short walking distance to downtown area & beautiful views from property. Very lush greenery, nice change from where... More

My two adult daughters and I stayed in one of the guest cottage's rooms recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was enormous as was the bathroom; lots of counter space for all the bathroom junk! We had all the amenities we needed including a mini fridge, and we all enjoyed the beautiful kimono style robes. We had a... More

I loved this place. I stayed here with a man I was in love with but broke up with me right before this trip. He still wanted to take me but instead of being his girlfriend I was more like his concubine. And to make things weirder he pretended that we were a loving couple the whole time. The Shipman... Barbra & Gary very nice people. I was in the shell room very clean. Sleep really well all 3 nights. The bread at breakfast was to die for. I wish I could have slice right now. I ate fruits that I never tried before. Really good. The only thing I did not like was the first 5 minutes of are... More
