This is a brilliant B&B. Our taxi driver on the way from the airport said you are staying in a castle. Greeted by Barbara and Gary at the door we were taken for a tour of their Hilo museum. They are so keen to please and they are a fountain of wisdom and knowledge regarding the whole Island. From restaurants... More

What a lovely place to stay in Hilo...we found the Shipman House by accident. We were suppose to stay in a hotel on bay front but the reservation dates got mixed up, hotel was booked when we arrived so I jumped onto Yelp. OMGOSH how lucky were we to find this bed & breakfast. The house was super clean, was... More

What a beautiful and interesting inn! Owners/Innkeepers Barbara & Gary provide an inviting, informative, and tasty stay in a home over 100 years old with tons of character. The house is a museum with interesting decorating and old time functionality. Skeleton keys are used to enter the rooms and with this throw-back feel comes old school cooling: fans and a... More

This is authentic Hawaiian. The beautifully maintained property and the fresh, awesomely diverse breakfast makes this B&B a MUST stay on any trip to the Big Island. Barbara and her husband are sooo hospitable. Overall, I have to say, the breakfast is unforgettable. After 7 years, that's what sticks with me the most.

For experiencing gracious Hawaiian hospitality in an historic home, Shipman House B&B is a wonderful choice. We loved the sunrise and birdsong from the comfort of Aunt Clara's Shell Room. The place is full of interesting art, furnishings and artifacts accumulated by the generations who've lived here. The hosts Barbara and Gary are justifiably proud of their unique home, its... More

The Shipman House provides an excellent location for Hilo. Lovely old house, well restored and maintained with nice grounds. It is set away from any busy area above a river. Several common rooms are available for guests and breakfast is served on the lanai. While the breakfast may be "continental", it includes a wide and extensive array of locally grown... More

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on a much-needed trip to Hawaii after my surgery. Our purpose was some sight-seeing coupled with relaxation. Shipman House was perfect! The host and hostess were knowledgeable, helpful, and unobtrusive. They offered some suggestions (prompted by us) for restaurants in the area, which all turned out to be great! Our room,... More

Shipman House and its kind and welcoming hostess and hostess was easily the nicest part of our stay during a recent trip to Hawaii. The home is remarkably well maintained, with beautiful grounds and curb appeal that takes your breath away as you come around the corner. Healthy, natural, well-rounded breakfasts with fresh ingredients and fruits picked on the grounds... More

This beautiful old house was built in 1899 and is furnished with antiques and other interesting pieces of furniture. We stayed in the Shell Room which was very comfortable with a four-poster bed, desk and couch. The breakfasts were excellent and very healthy with lots of local fruits and other healthy options. The hosts were very knowledgeable about things to... More

The Shipman House is a grand Victorian with a marvelous deck. The breakfast spread, complete with many unique fruits from the large gardens, is marvelous to see and eat. The hosts, Barbara Ann and Gary, are friendly and helpful. Would recommend strongly.
