This beautifully decorated B&B is the perfect place to stay in Hilo. Very comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast and a hostess who really makes you feel welcome. Traveling on my own and without a car, Gay very generously took me to the Hawaiian botanical gardens - a beautiful morning that I will not forget. I definitely recommend this B&B to anyone... More

Excellent hostess. Spacious clean suite at a very reasonable rate. Excellent varied continental breakfast. Gay is a wealth of knowledge on where to go and what to see. Don't pass up on this beautiful b&b.

What a warm welcome to Hawaii! As first timers to The Islands, Gay's interesting home, her knowledge of the Hawaiian culture, and friendliness, made the Hilo Honu a perfect first stop. The upstairs suite gave us an introduction to the Japanese culture so prevalent in the Hilo side of the Big Island (the builders of this historic property were Japanese).... More

A very nice home in excellent Hilo location brief walk to Main Street. Rooms were clean and spacious, breakfast consisted of fresh fruits - some from the yard - and homemade baked goods, eggs, etc. Owner Gay is a very interesting and knowledgeable woman about many local culture aspects. If we wanted to spend time in Hilo we would stay... More

We stayed with Gay for 3 nights in November and if you are staying in Hilo, this is a wonderful place to stay. Gay is warm, friendly and informative about all things Hawaiian and her delicious breakfasts are an added benefit. Our room was spacious and airy in a lovely house situated about 15-20mns walk from downtown. Note..if you don't... More

We stayed her for 2 nights in Aug. and we are still talking about what a beautiful, comfortable, safe and relaxing place Gay & Billy have. Gay treated us warmly from the moment we arrived until we left. The location is convenient to restaurants and shops and has plenty of parking. We stayed in the Honu's Nest room and it... More

We were at Hilo Honu for 6 nights in August....a most pleasant experience. The accommodation is very nice, with plenty of parking and quite close to downtown Hilo and other attractions. Innkeeper Gay was exceptionally friendly and informative (a great source of knowledge on things Hawaiian), and went out of her way to be accommodating. The breakfasts were tasty, with... More

First and foremost we absolutely loved our greeting from the hostess, Gay, upon arrival in Hilo from Volcano! She greets you with much Aloha spirit and has much insider information regarding the local restaurants. The Honu's Nest room was immaculate and beautifully decorated, perfect for last leg of our honeymoon. She is quite the storyteller and knows much about the... More

I didn't know what to expect when my husband told me we would be staying at a bed and breakfast in Hilo. We were greeted by name, by Gay, the gracious hostess at this lovely bed and breakfast. We needed two rooms so we were led upstairs to this lovely suite of 2 rooms and an attached bath. One of... More

This is our second stay at Gay's place (we never can seem to remember Hilo Honu...) and this time is just as memorable and enjoyable as our first. Breakfast is yummy with a good selection of local fruits that are perfectly ripe! Hilo is an interesting town and while not close, is the best option for visiting Volcano National Park.... More
