This B and B is centrally located--close to airport and downtown Hilo and it’s in a relatively quiet neighborhood (except for the Coqui Frogs which can be bothersome at night). The hosts (Charlotte and John Holmes) are gracious, cordial, and helpful. They provide internet connetion, suggestions about what to do and see, and general information about Hilo. Breakfast consists of... more

The warmth that we felt from the moment we arrived to the day we left was just like family. Charlotee and John were there for whatever needs we addressed. They were the perfect hosts. Sitting out on the Lanai was such a peaceful setting overlooking the Hilo Bay. The area was just perfect and so serene. I would come back... more

Holmes Sweet Home is a well-maintained house in quiet residential area with partial view of Hilo bay from the lanai. Hosts John and Charlotte Holmes make their guests feel so welcome they seem like family. Gracious and warm-hearted, they go out of their way to provide whatever one might need to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable. They like to... more

The Holmes are very welcoming and informative for the Big Island. The room with bath was quite good and the common area large. Two wonderful senior innkeepers. more

This B&B was perfect for my brief stay. It's quiet, in a residential neighborhood, with beautiful views, and lovely, friendly breakfast. The guest rooms are off the lanai, and are a completely separate wing of the house, so very private from the hosts. It's conveniently located for the UH campus, and for the saddle road, as well as for downtown.... more

My girlfriend and I spent our last four nights on the Big Island at Holmes' Sweet Home B&B. Charlotte and John were terrific hosts. They made us feel right at home and made sure we had everything we needed. The B&B is on a quiet suburban cul-de-sac, and you are literally minutes away from downtown Hilo. You are also close... more

The house is dated and guest rooms could certainly do with a few improvements. Pros: 1) Lovely breakfast - we were provided fresh fruits, muffins, cereals and bread 2) John and Charlotte are amiable hosts - it was fun chatting with them Cons: 1) We found cobwebs on the wall near our bed and a medicine bottle cap (with liquid)... more

We spent 2 nights in the Hawaiian Tropical Suite of Holmes' Sweet Home Bed and Breakfast in Hilo in July 2008. The ensuite Tropical Suite was smallish but adequate and spotlessly clean. The B&B offered WiFi (WLAN) for free, off-street parking as well as an adorable shared lanai. Also the location of the B&B was great because it is located... more

Accompanying our student to UH-Hilo, we didn't want or need the extras of a tourist hotel. After a search we discovered Holmes Sweet Home and were very pleased. Located in a residental neighborhood on the hill above town center, the property was very convenient to the UH-Hilo campus. Our room opened out to the Lanai with a tropical view of... more
