My fiance (now wife) and I had planned a trip to Hilo for a little R&R and thought we might as well tie the knot while we were there. We stumbled upon At the Beach with Friends on the Internet and thought it looked interesting, so we booked three nights. When told of our plans to get married, Claudia (the... More

I first discovered Claudia's B&B in January of 2006. I had a 3 week project, and the thought of staying in yet another hotel for that amount of time was not very appealing. After doing the usual internet searches and talking with friends, A B&B was the right choice in Hilo. But where? At the Beach with Friends was one... More

We found Claudia on the net and immediatly decided to stay there for our 3 days visit to Hilo on Big Island. We chose Hawaii as an exicing new "stop over" on our way from New Zealand back home to Norway, and main goals was to go birding and get to the top of Mauna Kea and to see the... More

We recently stayed at The Beach With Friends for six nights...and loved every minute! The whole place breathes Aloha. You can tell that it was built with a B&B in mind. Our room was immaculate with a comfortable bed and a beautiful private bathroom (clean towels almost every day). The sounds of birds and frogs lulled us to sleep every... More

If you could see me now - - - - Well, that’s what it felt like. With the fan slowly turning overhead, sometimes I felt like I was in a Bogart movie. Or I’d look at the bead-encrusted pillows that adorned the bed and I’d think more along the lines of ‘The Princess and the Pea’. Spoiled royalty! I like... More

At the Beach With Friends, was a perfect introduction to Hawaii. The house itself is a work of art, our room had a view of the ocean and the fish pond. We loved the garden as well. Claudia became our tour guide to the island and made sure we had all the things we needed. She provided snorkels, beach chairs,... More

We had a short but very pleasant stay in Hilo at Claudia's place. The rooms are new, large, clean and very comfortable. Each room has it's own bathroom. The location is private and the owners have landscaped the grounds into a tropical paradise. Claudia was very accomodating to our schedule and we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast with her in the... Four of us recently stayed at this B&B on the outskirts of Hilo. We took two of the three available rooms in a big house surrounded by thick typical Hawaiian foliage. Each of those rooms was immaculately clean and well appointed. Although we didin't use them, beach towels and snokeling equipment was offered. Also, we were offered the use of... More

We enjoyed the homey atmosphere created by owner Claudia Rohr. Everything in the house was at our disposal, including high speed internet computer, snorkeling equipment plus towels and even sunscreen, a fantastic home-cooked breakfast overlooking the lagoon....The room was comfortable and well-appointed (bed could be firmer) and the overall effect was charming. The inn is a block off the beach... More

Our initial impression was that the B&B was just like the pictures that we had seen on their website. The bedroom was well appointed and the bathroom was roomy and very tastefully done. There was a nicely decorated common room shared by the guests for dining, reading, and relaxing. Each morning, a continental breakfast was provided, but it was usually... More

Management response:

Hawaii is in the tropics and has bugs and frogs so only the adventurous and forgiving should travel here. 95% of our guests love the cogui frogs and say they lull them to sleep and add to the ambiance of an exotic experience. Light sleepers should travel with earplugs because coqui frogs are everywhere. Our facility is the newest of... More
