This gem is hidden right off a main drag in downtown Hilo – a treasure inside bright red gates just off the beaten path. Megan & Jasper, the owners, have decorated the buildings in cheerful colors, with many special artistic touches throughout. The grounds are really lovely and peaceful, with Buddha sculptures tucked into lush plantings, giant avocado trees, gorgeous... More

My Mom and I stayed 2 nights in this lovely, colorful place. It is a pretty, quiet compound, centrally located and full of flowers and a fabulous avocado tree; the cottage we stayed in was very clean, tastefully decorated and had all visitors could need - towels, hairdryer, equipped kitchen, and privacy as the rooms are on separate floors. Hosts... More

We stayed in the Lohi Apartment on our last trip to Hilo and could not have had a better stay. Megan and Jasper were wonderful hosts and were always ready with advice on restaurants and places to visit. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Hilo next to the farmers market and a short walk to many great... More

We highly recommend The Lotus Garden as the perfect place to stay in Hilo. We stayed in the Lotus Cottage, a charming 2-bedroom raised lodging. This is NOT a conventional "hotel" room/suite but rather a unique place that soothes the soul and fosters a sense of romance. Approaching the Garden from the street, one is given a peek through an... We stayed in the attic of the 'Sugar Shack'. It is a lovely retreat in the midst of town, close to everything you might need. The attic is lovely and full of light. Great ambiance and truly lovely and helpful hosts. Plus, maybe the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on!

We are a family of four- 2 adults, and kids ages 14 and 10 years old, and we found the Lotus Garden's "Sugar Shack" a welcoming place to call home base while we were staying in Hilo. We appreciated having the space to spread out, including functional outdoor areas and a full kitchen, and the location right in downtown Hilo... More

My wife, two year old son and I stayed at the Lotus Garden for four nights in January. Overall our stay was great. We rented 'The Lotus' which was a two bedroom apartment that had a queen bed and twin bed plus a small kitchen and living space. There was a small deck off of the front where we were... More

My husband and I traveled to the Big Island with our cousin, and we visited all around the island, ending up in Hilo at the Lotus Garden with Megan and Jasper. This was by far our most unique lodging. We loved being right in town, just steps away from the farmer's market and a short drive to many interesting things.... More

We have just enjoyed our second visit to Lotus Cottage. It is a lovely dwelling, peaceful, cozy and inviting. Lush bath towels and bedding. So comfortable! The location is excellent, right dowtown in Hilo, near the Farmer's Market and within easy walking distance of several excellent museums. It is a fairly short drive to the Scenic Drive and the Hawaiian... More

Due to weather on the mainland (the polar vortex), I was forced to change all my accommodations on the big island and could no longer spend the night in Hilo. When I explained this to Megan she said told me policy wouldn't allow her to refund the money I paid her 2 months earlier. Policy? She owns the place I'm... More

At the time his reservation was made, the policy regarding refunds were clearly stated requiring 14 days advance notice of cancellation when reserving our Lohi Apartment. Unfortunately we cannot operate on the same basis as a hotel as we aren't as easily able to fill last minute vacancies. Wherever possible we try to offer alternative dates or to fill the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lotus Garden is a tropical delight in the old town of Hilo. Enjoy being right downtown and a block from The Farmer's Market and a variety of great restaurants serving food 'local style.' The area also has great museums, galleries and parks nearby. This is an experience of 'old Hawaii.' Our garden is walled on all sides and filled with exotic fruit trees and flowers making it a place to rest and relax. With the budget traveler in mind, we have created a serene oasis providing a private guest apartment, and two plantation cottages; one being a guest house with shared bathroom and kitchen and one being a vacation rental accommodation to suit families, single travelers or couples seeking a unique vacation experience. ... more   less
