maureen is the queen of hospitality....i just loved her macadamian waffles and quiche...she lives within walking distance from a wonderful small local beach..her house is BIG and OLD and the beds are big and comfortable! because the house is old, the pilot light isn't always on, so an early morning shower was cold! she told me later that i could... In short: stay away. Details are below. Hostess: Maureen is very friendly and nice, though she is obsessed with horses and her cat. Maureen allows her cat to do basically everything: sleep on your bed, jump on you when you have breakfast, sit on your car… I do mind that, cat spoiled our suitcase. House: big and spooky, looks and... More

The previous viewer summed it up very well. The house could use a facelift and a good clean. The frogs are quite loud but ear plugs worked well and they did seem less loud the second night. There was only one other couple staying at the same time so the shared bathroom was not an issue but definitely I would... More

Maureen herself is lovely and personable, which makes writing a less-than-glowing review a little difficult for me. Mom told me if I don't have anything nice to say I shouldn't say anything at all. But I count on Trip Advisor reviews for both recommendations and cautionary tales, and if I'd known what I know now before booking at Maureen's, I... More

falling for the charm of the house itself seems not to be enough! Maureen herself is part of making this B&B stay so different and becomes such an experience. When i travel my skin tells me the feeling of the place, it's tighten up with the excitement since the first walking in. Aiming for 2 nights becomes the whole trip... More

Words can't describe how truly cool this place is. It's an amazing older home, designed by a well known architect in the 20's I believe. Maureen is a very sweet women, and I felt right at home the moment I entered this cool house. The price is extremely competetive. After reading some reviews about the place not being clean enough,... Let me tell you that Maureen loves animals. She was so good to us she even said she was going to keep our dog as deposit and odin (our dog) really loved her! She also gave my husband cold meds when he wasn't feeling well. Great place to stay if you want to be walking distance to beach parks and... More

This B&B is a beautiful place. Very close to the airport and across the street from a gorgeous lagoon (the lagoon is part of a cond). Yes, each bathroom is shared by two bedrooms. But we didnt have a problem with this (no one was staying in teh adjacent room at the time), and it is not so unusual for... More

Maureen's is a wonderful B&B in a great location. Maureen herself is a lovely person with real character. The house is gorgeous and you get a hot breakfast every morning. A couple of caveats for the finicky: the bathrooms are not en-suite and may be shared and some of the common rooms are open air (normal for a house in... More

Maureen's B&B was a comfortable stop, well suited for a Hilo traveler who wants to immerse in the laid back, open to nature style of Hawaii rather than the typical American-style hotel. It's an interesting home with a lot of unusual touches, and the relaxed attitude permeates your stay, including your discussions with Maureen. Our room was small but roomy... More
