My husband and I just spent two nights at Maureen's in her blue room. Maureen welcomed us with a sincere and heartfelt "welcome home," which was music to our ears after a very long flight and luggage hauling. The B&B is unforgettable - it is decorated in an eclectic sort of "shabby chic"/Victorian style and is very homey. The pictures on... more

I cannot recommend staying here because we did not. My husband and I arrived in Hilo after dark and when we pulled up to the house we were very disappointed. The hostess was not present, not to mention the alcohol reeking husband who stared at us and led us upstairs and the number of dogs that sniffed our crotches without... more

I was just told by a potential guest about the reviews on this site. I am no longer living with my husband and all of these reviews are very outdated. My home is warm and loving and I am continually improving my B&B.

Maureen's house is wonderfully open, woody, with unique architecture. The eight bedrooms are charmingly decorated with amusing "juntiques." They share 3 bathrooms. Try to avoid the 2 or 3 rooms that are supposed to share a bathroom with a huge, ugly black bathtub. The other 2 bathrooms are pleasant and clean. Like most B&B's in the islands, no a/c, but... more

When I read the reviews on this site I'm curious about what previous travel and lodging experiences some reviewers have. Their perceptions and expectations certainly determine the ratings they give and opinions they express. I bet you often wonder the same thing too, so I will start by saying that I am a budget traveller who has recently (in the... more

Our stay was, sadly, just one night as we "happened" onto this B & B. The archicture of the house is unlike we have seen before. The location is perfect for the ocean with beautiful blue water, beaches & natural terrain. There is a community park within walking distance of the house. The western Hilo side of the island is... more

This was our first stay at a B&B and it was a very positive experience. The architecture is quite unique with large stair cases to the upper bed rooms. The back yard is really a tropical garden. The house is a stones throw (across the street) from the shore line. Maureen has an open door policy, so if you want... more

For a relaxing stay in Hilo, Maureen's Bed & Breakfast provides an unexpected treat. Entering the house, you cannot help but be impressed with the architecture. The rooms bring you back to the Victorian era in Hawaiian history. The hosts are warm and personable. You feel more like being a guest in someone's home than staying in a museum. Not... more

Comfortable, relaxing, gorgeous old mansion. Easy walk to snorkeling and swimming, close to Hilo downtown. Fabulous breakfasts, and Maureen is a warm and friendly host. Recommended! more

Spent a wonderful week in Hilo -- don't let the rainy reputation fool you, this is old Hawaii at its most down-to-earth! Maureen Goto at Maureen's B&B in Hilo was a big part of the enjoyment: warm, welcoming, with a beautiful home and great breakfasts. We walked to the shore for snorkeling, drove less than an hour to see active... more
