Hale Kai is for those people that want a quiet setiing and a great view of the ocean. The rooms are not the most modern but clean and well kept. We slept great after exploring the volcano, waterfalls and botanical garden. The breakfast were scrumptious and plentiful. I read another review that commented "not enough food "but we all had plenty... more

We stayed at Hale Kai for four nights and had a GREAT time! Beautiful views, fantastic breakfast, especially the french toast. The room was clean, comfortable, and we had a great view. Falling asleep listening to the sound of the surf was the best nights sleep we have ever had. Will happily return again and again. Hilo is not a... more

Spent two nights here, wish it were none. Premises are not what website depicts - rundown, pool had algae and furnishings mismatched. Towels in bathroom old and musty. Breakfast not served until 8:00 a.m., would be nice to have coffee available before 7:30 am for early risers. Thank goodness we had plenty to do during the day so that we... more

We booked in for 4 nights but had to leave after 1. We would have left immediately on arrive if it had been possible. Room was small, poor and not as photo on website. Our reception on arrival was unwelcoming tho we arrived during the allotted times stated. Breakfast was awful, certainly we thought insufficient for the 6 persons at... more

I stayed there by myself for a 3 night vacation on the big island. Absoloutely loved it there! The rooms are quite big and spacy, though not the most modern. yet again - it's a B&B and not a modern hotel so i've expected it. The view from the front lanai and the rooms is breath-taking, and just falling asleep... more

Sitting on the lanii of the Hale Kai watching surfers gliding by. We stayed in the Pele suite that had wonderful high thread count bedding and our own lava lamp, A living room and kitchenette opening onto the ocean. Bright colors, cool breezes skies of every hue and breakfast upstairs on the blue lanii fit for a goddess, that would... more

We had a wonderful and restful experience at this beautiful Bed and Breakfast. Each night we fell asleep to the waves breaking against the cliff about 70 feet below the lanai. The hosts, Ric and Maria, were warm and personable and full of excellent suggestions. Maria is also an accomplished chef and each breakfast was a delight. Starting each morning... more

We stayed in the Pele suite. A decent bedroom, living room/kitchnette, very small bathroom, and oceanfront lanai with chairs and table. Breakfast each morning was good and the hosts Ric and Maria are personable and a great source of local information. We WERE booked at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel where we stayed a year earlier, but kept looking for a... more

The room was clean, breakfast was delicious and the owners are nice & helpful. This is a great B & B for people who enjoy their privacy-- the rooms all have outdoor entrances and a private lanai, so that you can come and go whenever you want. There is a convenient commons room with a frig and microwave. The hot... more

I feel very fortunate that I found the Hale Kai. I began working in Hilo in March. Finding the Hale Kai was my lucky day. I have spent 20 or so nights at different times during the last 9 months. I now fly over for the weekends as well as the work. I love the accomodations. I've stayed in all... more
