Whale watching at breakfast on the lanai while enjoying homemade macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup and fresh tropical fruit...a charming room with a vintage feel...falling asleep to a lullaby of ocean waves and chirping frogs...lovely hosts who not only provided sightseeing recommendations, but called my cell phone to warn me of an impending storm...Hale Kai was my first stop in... We did a round the island trip by car and chose Hale Kai because of its location. It was a short drive to Akaka falls, the botanical garden and Hilo. We were extremely happy with the room, the beautiful ocean view and the breakfasts. We enjoyed getting up in the morning to watch the sun rise from our lanai ....just... More

The room was gorgeous. We had a table and chairs on the lanai. Breakfast was excellent. On our last day Daniel gave us an itinerary of places we hadn't thought about and it was wonderful. He is a great source of things to do and places to eat. We arrived on June 25th which it turns out was the end... More

We enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai! We felt very welcomed and enjoyed the Bamboo room. The breakfast served on the upstairs lanai was very nice with fresh fruit, water/coffee/tea and an entree cooked by the host. The view of the ocean is great and you can catch a small glimpse of local surfers in the morning. The breakfast is... More

I stayed at Hale Kai for a week and would have stayed longer if I could. Daniel and Felicia were perfect hosts (Ric and Maria were traveling). Breakfast was awesome (fresh fruit, banana macadamia pancakes, scones, eggs with fresh basil, etc), and the location was perfect for exploring the entire Hilo side of the Island. Ric and Maria had a... More

This B&B was exactly as I expected it from the photos and descriptions I read. I feel it is accurately represented online. We spent a lot of time searching lodging options on the Hilo side of the island and I feel that this was one of the best places to choose from. First of all, the location is super -... More

After spending a couple nights in the resort area of Waikaloa near Kona we traveled to Hilo and spent two nights in the Moana Room at Hale Kai.We weren't sure what to expect since we normally don't stay at B&B's, however we were pleasantly surprised by the nice rooms, beautiful views and scrumptious breakfasts! It's located just a short drive... More

We just came back from a two night stay and I can't think of anything I'd change as far as the accommodations are concerned. It's beautiful, the other guests and hosts were fab. Just all around perfect, really. Stayed in the bamboo room. Loved it. But I'd be happy in any of the rooms. View is amazing. If you're considering... More

We got into Hawaii on Monday morning and when we got here there was a nice note on the door welcoming us and directing us to our accommodations. We stayed in the Pele Suite. The benefit to the suite is just that..it's a suite. It has a king size bed, generous closing space, a separate sitting room which is ocean... More

We stayed 4 nights in the Bamboo Room in this lovely bed and breakfast. The rooms all look right onto the water and we could see whales breaching from the room. There is a nice covered patio outside of each room with chairs so you can spend time relaxing and just enjoying the view. It is located on a small... More
