This is a really homey, comfortable place to have as a base of operation for Hilo and eastern Hawaii. Maria and Rick and their cat and dog are terrific hosts. They are extremely accommodating. Since I was sleeping in late every day, they were nice enough to make a fruit plate up for me that was waiting for me in... More

The Hale Kai Hawaii is a wonderful bed and breakfast set on a cliff above Hilo Bay It would be difficult to find a better place to stay in Hilo. We arrived late at night, so the directions from the airport provided by the B&B, were very helpful. We had an amazing view of the full moon on the bay... More

We had a delightful couple of days here. The location was really nice for us. The breakfasts were outstanding. The views were just lovely. The hosts were most gracious and helpful. The room was clean and neat. Not to be negative, but I'd describe the rooms as a little dated. They could use a good updating. But overall our experience... More

My friends and I stayed at Hale Kai Hawaii Bed & Breakfast last month and really enjoyed our stay in Hilo. It was very nice waking up to the beautiful sunrise and sound of waves! Rick & Maria offered wonderful & warm hospitality and delicious breakfast!! Plus, Rick made excellent recommendations of things to see/do during our stay in Hilo... More

We stayed at the Hale Kai for 3 nights at the end of our 3 week stay in Hawaii. It was a wonderful way to end our trip. This bed and breakfast is quiet, friendly, and very comfortable. Ricardo was very helpful when we needed advice on where to go or what to do on that side of the island.... More

I couldn't say enough good things about the owners and this B&B. Rick made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. This B&B is beautifully landscaped and has one of the best views of Hilo Bay. We stayed for 4 nights during our honeymoon in May,2014 and wish we would have stayed longer. There is nothing like... More

This B and B is now my favorite in Hilo as we've stayed at hotels and other B and Bs over the years for comparison. It's located out of Hilo a couple of miles right on the water, up on a cliff. So much fun to watch the Bay from a distance, view the fishing boats out on the water,... More

Be advised that in my review, I am not comparing this B& B experience with our experiences at self contained resorts. For example, on Maui our favorites are, in no particular order, Grand Wailea, Sheraton, Hyatt, Kea Lani, Westin, Marriott, KBH, Ritz. Even the Maui resorts I listed are different. Most likely, B&Bʻs are all different and there might be... More

We has the pleasure of staying two nights in March 2013. The B&B is well-situated, every room has a lanai with a sweeping ocean view (but as others have mentioned, the driveway can pose a bit of a challenge). The owners were always pleasant to interact with and offered good tips for dining and sight-seeing in the area. Breakfast was... More

Nice ocean-front room where I've seen sunset & sunrise and spotted whales in the distance for a number of times. The B&B is only a short drive from the airport, downtown, Walmart, Macy's, rainbow falls, and botanic gardens. Nice breakfast. Bed was extremely comfortable. The only downside was that the prize was a bit too high considering the room &... More
