Front desk is really friendly and quick. The hotel is gorgeous. It always rains in Hilo and it is right next to the ocean, so it stood up against nature pretty well - there was bound to be some rusting. This hotel is on the higher end in Hilo. If something is needed, the staff is right there to assist... More

Our favorite hotel to stay at in Hilo is the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. Recent upgrades in the rooms has made a stay even better! Though this was only a one night stay it was pleasant and well looked forward to. Sunrise is beautiful as the Hilo bay and town lights up. Rooms are clean, upgraded in decor and quiet. Looking... We chose this hotel for it's location and previous reviews. It did have nice views but that's about it. For the price you pay - the amenities ought to be better as well as the decor - I guess since there is a very limited number of places to stay at - its tough. We were getting married the next... Dear Valued Guest: Aloha! I thank you for your review. I cannot remember the last time the power went out at the hotel but we have a detailed plan when it does happen. Staff is sent to each floor to provide lights and assistance with baggage. Within a few minutes stairway doors are opened with staff stationed on each floor... More

Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel is our favorite hotel for offering beautiful views of Hilo Bay and Coconut Island. Although the hotel offers garden view units, it is worth the extra money to have a "bay view." Sitting on the lanai, looking at the bay, is soothing and relaxing. Over early morning coffee on our 2nd day we saw a large... More

This hotel had its pluses and minuses. The property is situated on the ocean with some amazing views of Hilo Bay and is close to the airport and cruise pier. Since it was only for one night, we selected a garden view room which was spacious, clean and well appointed. The décor was dated but well maintained and in perfect... More

This is more of 2.5 in my opinion. The reviewer that stated, "Super 8 with a view" hit the nail on the head. First off, the location is great and the view beautiful. The rooms are small but recently renovated, which is nice. There is so much potential for this property based on this alone BUT they have some issues to... More

Dust on the desk, plastic rubbish on bathroom floor, bottle cap on the floor, and beer left in fridge which wouldn't be bad but it was PBR! 5th floor had a great view. Pool had a cockroach on deck but water is cooler and refreshing. Too cold for an elderly person though I would imagine. One night stay was a... More

We only stayed in Hilo to be close to the base for our planned helicopter tour over the lava fields - Hilo airport. The weather was overcast which didn't help and although the hotel was in a great location looking out over the harbour, it lacked any atmosphere. I suspect room occupancy would have been well below capacity because the... More

The castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel Is one of the older hotels in Hilo and it has just gone through some upgrades. We found our room to be comfortable, clean and modern. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant and drank in the lounge - all enjoyable!

We stayed here for 3 days and found the hotel very relaxing. Would recommend it for a short stay and if possible do 'self catering'. We found the restaurant somewhat expensive. A while we had only a small fridge in the room it was adequate to keep a few small breakfast supplies. We dined at a local landmark restaurant which... More
