Pros: -Proximity to coconut island -Availability of ocean views Cons: -Staff experience ranges from apathetic to outright rude -A/C performance is totally inadequate (a full night set to 65F and the room is still 76F) -Housekeeping repeatedly failed to accomplish bare minimum (for example: leaving a single towel in the room) -Overpriced wifi I want to preface this by stating... We got the ocean view room this time. The views are great but, let me tell you the afternoon sun is hot! The rooms are well insulated. I can't hear the neighbors & the coqui frogs didn't bother me.There is a fridge, iron, ironing board , blow dryer & coffee maker in the room.

After struggling to find a place to stay in Hilo for a couple of nights, I settled on Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. My only real issue with the hotel is it looked kind of dated. Even the bed in the room kind of sank-in in the middle from wear and tear. For these reasons and after taking all other factors... More

Older hotel that is clean but in need of a remodeling, especially the bathroom. Nice lanai to sit and enjoy the view. Advertises free WiFi but that is just in lobby. $10. A day for WiFi in room. Ice bucket for ice but no drinking glasses. I had to go to bar downstairs to get some plastic ones. No luggage... More

This Hotel has a convenient location to the Airport and downtown Hilo, however unfortunately it has seen better days and certainly could use a major renovation. The hotel staff were very helpful and courteous.

Location was great on the water and close to the access road to the airport and volcano and across the road from the Liliuokalani gardens. The hotel offered two restaurants for evening meals and they were very good. The breakfast buffet on the other hand was very average and not worth the price. We found a little café down the... More

We only stayed one night at this hotel before leaving Hawaii. We found the service to be friendly but felt they were understaffed. The pool was small and cold, too cold for swimming. They ocean was warmer and the hotel was convenient to the bay swimming and kayaking. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were terrible! I've never had... More

Hilo itself is not the greatest area BUT it is close to some really nice places in Hawaii, like the Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls & some other places, so we decided to stay there for half our trip so we didn't have to drive as far the whole time. The hotel itself is pretty nice for the town it's... More

The room is not that bad, bed is somewhat comfortable.Tub is not inviting due to some mold.Housekeeper did not clean the toilets daily. Carpets were not vacuumed nor was room dusted. We did ask for extra towels and it was no issue but when we asked for an extra coffee bag we were told no. No room service available.

This was our first time staying in Hilo and this hotel was recommended. It sits on the Hilo bay which is great. The hotel is older and probably needs a good renovation but the staff was all very friendly.
