We had a really good stay at this hotel. Our expectations were pretty moderate given the price and some of the reviews from this site. Yes, the hotel could do with a substantial refurbishment, but it's dated rather than shabby. Room size is very good and I loved having a generous space to stow luggage and hang up clothes. Everything... More

We stayed here for two nights while on a trip to several Hawaiian islands. We chose to stay in Hilo, instead of Kona, for Hilo's proximity (about 40 minutes, as opposed to two and a half hours from Kona) to Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea. The view from our room was magnificent--the water, a park, mountains, just beautiful. Otherwise:... More

Not even sure why I choose to stay in Hilo but I did. My husband doesn't like B&B's so we stayed at this hotel. No wi-fi in rooms, only lobby, had to ask for a hair dryer, no in-room safe. Breakfast buffet was reasonably priced.

This hotel is in a great location, not far from the airport, not far from Hilo. Good sized rooms, fairly basic. Didn't try restaurant so can't review that. Plenty of parking. Frogs are noisy. Don't expect to get a hair dryer, every time I asked for one they were all already on loan.

Great location, very clean, very nice staff, very nice restaurant. Laundry facilities in basement. Overall great and BEST place to stay if you are in Hilo. We were there during the Hurricane Iselle scare, and the staff were amazing in care and attentiveness. We stayed here in between visiting Volcano National Park and flying out to Honolulu. Will definitely stay... More

We stayed here for two nights in August. We chose the location because of it's proximity to Highway 11 and the airport. The check-in process was painless. We arrived around 7 pm and checked right in. We paid for ocean view rooms which wound up being a bargain at $203/night (incl. taxes). I say bargain not because you can't find... More

Newly renovated with a fantastic view of Hilo Bay and Mauna Kea observatory. Once a year visit and never had a disappointment!! This is beautiful Hawaii at its best!!! Minutes away from Hilo airport, and a 2 minute drive to old downtown (farmers market). 40 minutes to Honokaa town for some malasadas. Keep going on the highway and you'll be... More

Hilo Hawaiian is probably the nicest hotel in the Hilo area. Certainly the setting was attractive. It met our needs, was adequate, for our one night stay. We wanted to be near the Volcano Nat'l Park and to see another part of the island. That part of Hilo feels a little run down. The title "Flashback" refers to the feeling... More

Room, vanity and wardrobe well designed and spacious. Bathroom floor a pseudo bamboo non-skid surface. Very separate toilet/shower. Superb balcony, could spend hours there. Very comfortable bed. Pool OK. Reception never over-run and very friendly. Room had been redecorated. 5 minute walk towards town to one of the few good cafes or restaurants in Hilo (Hilo Bay Cafe - 808.935.4939... More

We were told that the Hilo Hawaiian was the best hotel in Hilo. It may be, but there are dozens of other hotels that are far superior on the Kona side of the island. With that said, the hotel was very attractive, in an excellent location right on the Hilo Bay and just a couple miles from the airport. The... More
