My wife and I stay here in James Michener Romm for 6 days from Feb 25 2015. I believed this 6 days would be unforgetable for a life time. I can't say anything negative after my stay. This bnb and its hosts gave us great experience. The Michener room was more spacious and and extremely comfortable. This style was old... More

Hilo Bay Hale is a very nice bed and breakfast tucked away in an unassuming part of the Big Island. We arrived late and were somewhat put-off by the surroundings; an adult store on the adjacent corner, the blaring television and slightly louder young child in the house next door, and the old van in the street out front with... An older house with pleasant front and back porches within a short walk to the bay. Excellent breakfast, tropical fruit eggs, bacon, coffee locally produced and fresh. Friendly helpful host, comfortable bed and easily accessible internet. Not a fancy or large room but comfortable.

We've stayed here three times (see previous glowing review) and we love the house and our hosts. But the shower valve was broken in the Bay Room. So we were moved immediately to the room at the front of the house. Same model valve, same problem. Because water was either scorching hot or freezing cold, showers were impossible for our... More

Mahalo Martin for the glowing reviews in the past and staying with us again. We are replacing the fixtures in both rooms and in the meantime, instructing guests how to adjust the water temperature. We are always working hard to make every guests' experience a great one and we hope you will return again. And we are happy to give... More

Hilo Bay Hale was excellent. We stayed one night in the Michener room after a 9 pm arrival into Hilo. It was easy to find and self check in was simple (keys waiting). Enjoyed listening to the frogs, but this may not be for everyone - they are loud! Nicely appointed room and bath. Wonderful host and delicious breakfast. Highly... More

We stayed two nights in the Michener room which had a comfortable bed, generously sized bathroom, and lanai with fish pond. It was a lovely room for our needs as we were out of the house enjoying the local attractions. It is not a B&B that I would have wanted to just hang out but it's Hawaii where there is... More

Stayed here late in September and enjoyed a wonderful Hilo experience in a restored turn-of-the century home with great hosts. The house is full of history, the location is very convenient to downtown Hilo, the atmosphere is welcoming, the hosts are helpful in every way, and the breakfast is fantastic. I had the Michener room and enjoyed feeding the koi... More

You really can't go wrong here, large, comfortable rooms, an outstanding breakfast, and extremely friendly and helpful owner and staff. We had the Lava room downstairs which is very private. You can also do your washing here (useful on a long trip). After the hellhole of Honolulu/Oahu, downtown Hilo is like stepping back to the sixties. There are quite a... More

This is one of those unexpectedly great places where from the street front at first you wonder 'Hhm'. But then you walk in and it's like a friends house, a friend of whom you're secretly jealous of their wonderful home. It really is beautiful. The rooms are large, well decorated (someone knows their interior design- keeping it simple yet classy)... More
