Hilo Bay Hale Bed and Breakfast embodies the best of what a B&B should be: cleanliness, charm, and simple but pleasing accommodations. There are three rooms available, each with its own personality. We stayed in the "Michener Room", which was comfortable and spacious, with a huge bathroom and small lanai (Hawaiian for "porch") perfect for relaxing. (The Michener, by the... More

Our one night stay in Hilo was short but very appreciated. Our hosts at Hilo Bay Hale were welcoming and cared to our needs. The place was lovely and very well located, easy to walk to anything downtown Hilo. And on top of it all, we had a delicious breakfast before packing and continuing our island tour. Would recommend.

Our first time in a bed & breakfast and we had a great experience. We stayed for three nights in March in the James Michener Room. The lanai overlooks a koi pond in the back. Great location, within walking distance of the Hilo Farmer's Market. Matt was a very friendly and accommodating host, and made great breakfasts each morning. Would... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in February, and would recommend it to anyone looking for lodging at a reasonable price. We stayed in the Lava Room, which has a lovely bathroom (though the steps up and down can be tricky in the dark) and lanai, which we were unfortunately unable to enjoy due to rainy weather. The open air... More

We just finished a three light stay at Hilo Bay Hale and absolutely loved it! We stayed in the Lava Room which gave us a perfect feeling like we where truly in our own place (well, actually we did have our own place - as we lucked out and no one else was staying the whole time we were there!).... It is an interesting place, not the best B&B we have stayed... We got the lower room, no much for an A/C, as well, the bathroom was redone and not very comfortable. Considering you are supposed to be outdoors it was ok. Not sure about location, but we didn't fell that safe strolling around at night for dinner. The parking... More

We really liked Hilo Bay Hale. The rooms were comfortable, and the people were great. Carolina was especially helpful. The breakfasts are yummy too, and they were kind to accommodate my dietary restriction. Careful when you try to park, though. The parking in the "driveway" is a tight fit; after doing a 25-point turn to get out the first morning,... More

This B & B is in town on the hill up from the harbor at Hilo. The house is an old plantation style home that has been restored in keeping with its age. We had the whole house to ourselves for 2 days. The owners do not live on the property, but do have an office downstairs. Our adult kids... More

Hawaiian Air thought we should stay one more day. Who were we to complain? But we had to find a last minute place to stay and this was just perfect. I don't think we could have found anything better in Hilo (we are quite familiar with the town), at any price.

This was such a nice place to stay. I spent 2 nights at their farmhouse and 5 nights at the BB in Hilo. It was just great. The Farmhouse was gorgeous. 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bath, all to myself. There's a screened in porch, huge! An outdoor shower and beautiful decor. It's country so they have chickens, ducks, dogs, roosters, goats...it's... More
