This place creeped me out. When you pull up, it's like you're driving up to a condemned building. The lobby is empty, bare, lifeless - just one employee who was there to collect your payment and hand you a key. Along with the hotel common areas, the parking lot and grounds are in terrible condition. Our renovated room was pretty... more

First of all, the Naniloa was our second choice..The Hilo Hawaiian was not offering discounted room rates, so we decided on next door. The exterior of the Naniloa is scary. very old, doors of the spa is boarded, the pool is a disgusting sight! the front desk clerk (lori) was very unfriendly, sour face. So much for the welcome, but... more

The hotel has obviously seen better days. The spa was boarded up and closed. The restaurants that used to be there are closed, which is a shame. The walkways around the hotel lack safety railings and the abandoned swimming pool in the parking lot is unlocked and filled with water, algae and garbage. This hotel's grounds is unsafe for children as well... more

The room was newly renovated so was very clean and fresh. It had some nice ammenities like a fridge (w/a great freezer compartment!), a small coffemaker w/ all of the condiments, and a nice, big bathroom. Great location - near the heart of Hilo town. Downside: no restaurants or Sundry store in the actual Hotel (not even a Soda pop... more

This hotel didn't cost much so . . . Our room was georgeous. Absolutely drop dead georgeous. It wasn't large but it was very nice. The only problem with the hotel is that it was under renovation. There was scaffolding everywhere, etc. Breakfast is offerend at a reasonble price--especially when you consider that you're not paying much for the room.... more

Stayed here for one night and omg it is depressing..loud construction in the morning, staff said was under renovations since 2007? and will end in 2010? Very long undertaking for a hotel that is not a place to stay-- really get a bed and breakfast instead. The rooms are tiled and cold, pests, roaches, are all over floors. Pool? not... more

Our first room, which was on the second floor and a king deluxe, had mosquitoes and the sliding glass doors did not lock. We relocated to another king deluxe room the next day - it had roaches and on-going construction next door. My colleagues also had a king deluxe room which had ants. We decided not to move to another... more

My wife and I stayed at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort for one night. My recommendation - do not expect a resort, rather a hotel. Hilo is not a major resort area with 5 star hotels. I think this was one of the best choices in the area. This was the first night of our 10 nights in Hawaii. (1 night... more

We booked an ocean view/corner room. It was on the 5th floor and had a wrap-around lanai. The room was clean and in good condition. Our room was quiet, as it was at the end of the hall. We came with low expectations, but we really enjoyed our stay. The view of Hilo Bay and the sunrises were spectacular. We... more

the website shows a nice resort with brand new remodeled rooms, beware the place is a mess and part of it is remodeled very poorly the new rooms have tile floors so you can hear every little noise even the ding of the elevator and my room was at the other end of the hall, the sheets felt like newspaper... more
