Hilo town is not known for hotel luxury. This side offers a different experience as does Uncle Billy’s. Often the help is friendly. Sometimes they lack customer service skills that upscale hotels tout. Standard rooms are clean but sorely in need of updating. A room upgrade will give you amazing views and more attractive interiors. Expect deterioration in hallways and... More

This was the cheapest accommodations we found available in Hilo, and for the price it wasn't bad. The rooms were clean, the staff very friendly and reasonably comfortable. The continental breakfast was minimal but just fine. Great water pressure in the shower, through the temperature fluctuated somewhat as other people in the building used the shower. Walking distance to a... More

I've been staying at Uncle Billy's whenever I'm in Hilo for 20 years at least. The minuses are on previous comments, although sometimes overstated a bit. Yes, Uncle Billy's needs a do-over. There can be mold here and there, it needs a new paint job, and some of the carpet is a bit old. But remember, this is Hilo, the... More

The reviews don't match this hotel at all. old yes but not clean. its shabby and not upkept.when we saw the outside, the lobby and the restrooms we knew the rooms would be questionable. but our last night on big island and we need to sleep somewhere. very uncomfortable. reminds me of the worst hotel I've stayed at in Mexico.... Good value, clean room, clean sheets. Old hotel but I'm sure you can imagine "old hawaii" while you are here. We usually stay in much nicer hotels but this place is just fine for one night. No complaints. Have a sense of humor and everything will be ok. It's a little adventure for sure.

Cute and quiet place. Great for the value. It's near all the locals and black sand beaches. Breakfast was interesting with papayas, carbs, coffee, and juice, no protein. The local spots to visit near are Richardson State Park and Akaka Falls State park. Near downtown Hilo with all the shops. Hotel was nice overall.

This is a very cute hotel, very well located in Hilo, right on the ocean, next to a nice park. Breakfast is ok if you are not a big eater in the morning. There is toast, english muffin, jelly, butter, banana muffin, papaya, coffee, chocolate powder for hot chocolate. The room was very big. There was 2 adults and 2... More

Very old hotel right on the water and on beautiful Banyan Drive. The place is old and damp (right on the water - remember?). However, for a very inexpensive, clean bed, it does the job. Staff are friendly and kind. In-room wireless is the best we have had for our whole trip. Breakfast included in our room rate but it... More

Beautiful view, beautiful Banyan trees. This is an old hotel that has not been kept up. If you are looking for an affordable place to sleep, shower and shave then this will do just fine. Friendly staff. Simple breakfast but the fresh papayas added a nice local touch. Close to airport and about a 25 minute walk to downtown Hilo.... More

The reservation's desk quoted us one price for one of their renovated rooms. When we arrived we were told that the renovated rooms were more expensive. So for fifteen dollars more we took the what they called the supreme room, aka the renovated room. When we arrived at our room we were shocked to see the rooms apperance. I thought they... More
