We stayed in the Kona area the week of the Iron Man championships and this was the last place we stayed at. Of the four B&Bs we stayed at, this was the best. The house and grounds are beautiful and Janice and Steve were great. I especially appreciate Janice taking the time to answer my bazillions of questions I had!... More

This property is beautifully set among lush palms and greenery. Located about 20-25 minutes drive south of Kailua-Kona, it is comfortably furnished and the breakfasts are excellent. Each morning at breakfast we were asked of our plans for the day, and Janice was forthcoming with itinerary sheets and other hints and tips. We were also permitted to borrow snorkelling gear,... The property was beautiful, the room quaint and quiet and the gourmet breakfast was delicious! The yard is immaculate and includes a few beautiful wild chickens and even a mongoose, and lots of tropical fruit trees. Our room was extremely clean, and included a small porch to sit outside at night. Breakfast was served on the lanai by Janice, who... More

Janice and Steve provided a very private room just off the garage with a private porch with a beautiful view of their landscaped yard. You feel like you are in a private oasis when you are there. The breakfasts are beautiful as well as delicious! Even the take out for early risers was more than adequate!! One thing you might... More

The Areca Palms business card exhorts 'Great Breakfasts, Quiet Location, Comfortable Beds and Sage Advice'. It should instead exhort 'Fantastic Breakfasts, Perfect Location, Very Comfortable Beds, and Sage, Prudent Advice'. Added should be 'Available, but discrete and non-intrusive hosts, and great facilities'. Thank-you Janice and Steve!

We stayed here in November 2011 and have been wanted to come back, and in May of 2015, my wife and I brought our son who just graduated high school. The property was immaculate in the grounds, the rooms, and the linens -- Steve and Janice take such beautiful care the the property. The breakfasts were created, tasty, and very... More

We were a group of fife people on a trip from Kona to Hilo. We stayed two nights. Why we would recommend this place? - Because of the large, neat garden - The immaculate rooms - The good equipment going from wifi to snorkeling gear But the thing which is really memorable about the stay are the owners - Janice... Everything was clean and the breakfasts were flavorful & nutritious; prepared from many things grown on the estate. The hosts were knowledgeable of the area. They were always willing to help when we had our "tourist" questions. Plus, Janice does facials! The "yard" was beautiful. The location puts you in range of just about anything for day trips. Room was very quite and clean, the big private bathroom was also very clean. There are a very nice living room and lanai available to guests. Janice prepared great and various breakfasts every morning; she and Steve were very friendly and helpfull.

The Areca Palms Bed & Breakfast is a very good choice for the traveler on the go. It is located close to the highway, yet quiet and private. You can visit the main attractions up and down the coast, which are mostly an hour or two away, depending on traffic and the speed limit, then retreat to the comfort of... More
