what a charming family ran hotel. you won't find places like this anymore. sure you can go stay at one of those expensive chain hotels, but what's the point of that? those chain hotels are the same whether you're in new york, paris, tokyo or wherever. this place is a cozy old school local joint with a restaurant ran by... The Manago family has owned and operated this hotel since 1917 and you really feel like a local by staying here and dining in their family restaurant. Warm aloha spirit from the Manago family and staff. Sure, the rooms are simple and basic but very clean and if you get one on the ocean side with a balcony, you will... More

If you are looking for a something slow and different, this may be the place for you. Not your typical Hawaiian over-done, over-the-top touristy drabble. Manago is situated on the quiet slopes of the mountain, overlooking a serene and breath-taking coastline. You are transported back about 40 years to a simpler time, before the distractions of technology or the extravagances... More

We stayed in this hotel for one night which is what it is good for, an overnight stay. It was clean, but there is nothing in the room, not even pictures on the wall. The lanai is nice and there is a garden below although the roosters walking around in the garden may likely wake you up in the morning.... More

The staff was pleasant, the check in super easy (We did not book on advance), the room clean with a view on the ocean and on the garden. We a simply loved it and spend our 4 last days here! We definetly recommend it!

This was the first stop for our family of 4. What a fabulous place and a great way to introduce our children to the Big Island. No television no phone, and the view from the 3rd floor is lovely. They have a walkway between the 2 buildings that are full of plants and flowers, definitely worth a stroll. It was... More

No frills, no thrills, no spills. . . 1. No frills, this is a place to sleep, not much else. Although clean, it could us a bit of fixing the window screens, and sliding screen door were all full of holes. That would not be bad in most cases; that is bad for an island motel. Bugs, mosquitos, moths, and... More

Love the Ocean? This is the best! No phone, no TV, no hair dryer, No shampoos, JUST the wonderful ocean, sound of birds and frogs, fresh breezes, lanais with chair facing the sea, restaurant with local food, clean comfortable beds, wonderful staff and beautiful courtyard. Great price, good for groups, located in Captain Cook. There are small restaurants near by... More

Love this place. Have stayed here many, many times. It is high country overlooking the west coast of the Big Island. It is an old wooden structure building, nothing fancy. It is like going back 50 to 75 years to the Hawaii that has disappeared. The views from the rooms at the back are lovely. There are small Japanese gardens... More

Although facilities are limited, this hotel is scrupulously clean and the bedroom and bathroom are of a generous size. We were on the third floor with a nice balcony and sea views. Staff at the front desk were extremely pleasant and helpful. Sadly, the renowned restaurant was closed for refurbishment during our visit so we couldn't sample the famous pork... More
