We stayed 5 nights in this wonderful historic hotel. It is perfectly located for exploring the west coast of Big Island. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the ocean. The room was large and clean - and serviced every day. The restaurant is not to be missed. Full of locals, and great food. Definitely recommend this one.

Let me start by saying that I am a budget traveler and with my travel schedule, I was at hotels only to sleep. That being said, Manago Hotel was overall a positive experience with only a couple of minor issues. I stayed here for 5 nights and would more than likely come back for future visits. I stayed in the... More

With Japanese style furnishings, Tatami, a fancy Go board and a Furo for soaking, the tiny Japanese room is just right for an overnight visit. Bring your sense of adventure, or at least your sense of humor! The Manago is a little past it's prime. If you are looking for someplace "nice" this may not be the one. Travelers with... More

We have always found the Manago Hotel to be a great bargain each trip we have made to the Big Island. The rooms are comfortable and the Japanese gardens beautiful. It is a treat of going back in time to breakfast in the restaurant. Good food, good prices and friendly wait staff.

This was the most inexpensive accommodation we made in in our 5 nights on the Big Island. We were lucky enough to get a room in the back, overlooking a nice garden and lovely view of the ocean. Saw a stunning sunset just as we checked in (attached photo). Clean, with two double beds and an excellent shower. There is... More

There are two options when staying here. The first is in the old section of the building (built in 1917). In this section, the rooms are $38 per night, but there is no insulation, and every sound in the hallway echoes. Since the all the rooms share bathrooms (down the hall), there is a lot of noise. This part of... More

We were fortunate to spend most of our time at a luxury condo in South Kona, and travel a bit to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park. We needed a place to land on our last night and just came upon this hotel on the way to Kealekekua Bay - it was perfect! We reserved one night for a price cheaper... More

This is a small, no frills, family owned & managed hotel. I recently moved to the Big Island from California and this was a fantastic landing spot for a week prior to moving into my permanent home. Quite simply, you have a bed, dresser, toilet, and shower. No TV, no phone, no refrigerator. If you are expecting a 5 star... More

The Manago Hotel is a modest, friendly, family owned & managed, value oriented hotel with restaurant in Captain Cook. Located on highway 11, it’s an easy 20-mile, 35-minute drive from KOA airport. While we prefer to spend the bulk of our visits to the Big Island in the HVNP & Hilo areas instead of near Kona, our flights always land... More

This is my honest opinion, written with future visitors in mind. We stayed in a first floor unit for 4 nights in January 2015. Every room has a view overlooking an orchard and the ocean beyond. Even the view from our first floor lanai was a treat, with wonderful photogenic sunsets. There are only a few choices: which floor, number... More
