We are both Big Island residents and wanted to explore the southern end of our island. The Manago Hotel has been in business since 1917 (?) and are well known for their famous pork chops. Our second floor room with a private bath was clean with a great ocean view. There is no TV or wall hangings & pictures in... More

Manago Hotel has a charm of its own, we were transported to a laid-back, gracious, Hawaiian lifestyle when my family and I stayed here for one night during our first trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. Granted, the rooms are older, but the staff is amazing and you can't beat the price or location. We reserved a top floor... More

We stayed for 8 nights in the back section of the hotel, away from the road, and on the third floor. Our Lani (balcony) had a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding neighborhoods below us. Now, some people desire amenities, luxury, and all the bells and whistles. You won't find that at the Manago, there is no TV, no... More

We stayed 5 nights in this wonderful historic hotel. It is perfectly located for exploring the west coast of Big Island. We had a room on the third floor overlooking the ocean. The room was large and clean - and serviced every day. The restaurant is not to be missed. Full of locals, and great food. Definitely recommend this one.

Let me start by saying that I am a budget traveler and with my travel schedule, I was at hotels only to sleep. That being said, Manago Hotel was overall a positive experience with only a couple of minor issues. I stayed here for 5 nights and would more than likely come back for future visits. I stayed in the... More

Aloha Charles! I'm happy to hear you had a pleasant 5 night stay with us. I sincerely apologize for the cockroach you found in the shower and for the noise in your room. We did recently fumigate the entire hotel so hopefully then next time you visit us you won't run into anymore non-human Hawaiian residents. Mahalo for your feedback! More

With Japanese style furnishings, Tatami, a fancy Go board and a Furo for soaking, the tiny Japanese room is just right for an overnight visit. Bring your sense of adventure, or at least your sense of humor! The Manago is a little past it's prime. If you are looking for someplace "nice" this may not be the one. Travelers with... More

Mahalo for the review! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your overnight stay in our Japanese room. We try our best to stay as "up to date" as possible while still maintaining the sense of old Hawaii. We have always found the Manago Hotel to be a great bargain each trip we have made to the Big Island. The rooms are comfortable and the Japanese gardens beautiful. It is a treat of going back in time to breakfast in the restaurant. Good food, good prices and friendly wait staff.

This was the most inexpensive accommodation we made in in our 5 nights on the Big Island. We were lucky enough to get a room in the back, overlooking a nice garden and lovely view of the ocean. Saw a stunning sunset just as we checked in (attached photo). Clean, with two double beds and an excellent shower. There is... More

There are two options when staying here. The first is in the old section of the building (built in 1917). In this section, the rooms are $38 per night, but there is no insulation, and every sound in the hallway echoes. Since the all the rooms share bathrooms (down the hall), there is a lot of noise. This part of... More
