We're extreme budget travelers, but we were able to afford the Owen Wister suite, which was the best room in the place. We both used the claw foot tub and enjoyed relaxing in the sitting room. The place is packed full of history and antiques. If you absolutely must have a bathroom in your room, make sure you get a... More

Okay - you don't stay in a town like Medicine Bow, Wyoming and expect the kind of accommodations you'd get in a larger town. With a population under 300 - you're here for other reasons. The Virginian Hotel is just a huge piece of history. In the old section, which is absolutely stunning, you won't find telephones, televisions or air... More

There is some interesting history in this old hotel and restaurant, but I can check this one off the list. Food was fine, definitely not anything average or better. Service was awful, one waitress yelled across the dining room the entire meal. Two different tables actually asked if they should leave because of her actions. Hotel rooms were interesting, but... Quite by accident, we happened upon this gem. We stopped for breakfast. WOW. One of the best we have had in our travels. Steak and eggs outstanding. French toast, equal. Coffee was very good. Prices more than reasonable. You should have to pay just to be in this piece of history. Incredible bar area and dining. Like walking back 100... More

We had a Road Rally thru here and spent nite. Hotel is very dated but functional. Staff eager to please and polite--fun at night. Food filling but mediocre (overcooked steaks, "homemade chicken fried steaks" w/brown gravy from a can). BUT--best part was a tour of museum and history across the road by Marv! Re: sleeping--forget it. Trains come by on... More

after a lot of miles through the beautiful "nothing" of wioming we have found this hotel that for us it has been a great experience: cheap, clean and an incredible atmophere of the wild wild west. it's possible to eat too and the food was good. it seems to be in another world..... wow....

It doesn't like like much from the outside but once you cross over the door way you enter in to another world. The food was good!, We were give permission to snoop and we were taken back on the rooms decor. They were excellently furnished in another era. They people there we very nice and answered questions we had and... More

I drive by this place a lot because I prefer Highway 30 to the Interstate. The Virginian author Owen Wister had a cabin across the street. When I stop I eat a very heavy breakfast - the omelets are huge as well as the lunches. The rooms are renovated in old west motif. Medicine Bow is a regular small town,... More

The front is nice; Flowers and antiques. I thought "This is going to be fun." No. I know it's old, but it smells so musty. The carpet is dirty. (I would rather it have the old wooden floors than dirty carpet). This would make a great place to tour, eat and maybe stay in their motel part, but someone needs... More

We visited the Virginian Hotel in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. It is located out in the middle of nowhere and with very few trees to buffer the constant dusty wind that is blowing constantly. The hyotel has three floors with a few rooms located on the main level but most of the rooms are on the second and third floors. The... More
