We found the Virginian Hotel to be terribly dirty... found hair in our sheets, so I found a linen closet and changed my own sheets. I did not want to walk on the carpet with my bare feet! Then, to add insult to injury, I got sick on the food and passed out in the bathroom splitting my lip and... More

You've really got to want to go here. It's a huge block building in a town of about 275 souls. We needed a Queen bed and wanted to stay in the hotel. That meant we had to rent the Owen Wister Suite. $94. The hotel has 3 floors up. On the first floor is a bar, hotel lobby, cafe and... More

If you are western fans, you need to visit Medicine Bow and The Virginian Hotel at Least once in your lifetime. Let me tell you right up front, I LOVE this place on many levels. The people are VERY friendly, they will accommodate all your wishes if they can, and they give you great service, will talk your ears off,... More

I stayed one night in the sleepings rooms which are rooms that share a common bathroom and shower. There were so few people there that eve that I pretty much had the floor to myself and chose a room not facing the rail tracks or road (you will hear the trains rumble through anywhere in Medicine Bow). I had a... More

Interesting place to PASS THRU. The room was musty to say the least. The water smelled so much like pvc glue that we were afraid to drink it. The door locks are poor. The locals are in the restaurant /bar all the time. And that Damned train is every hour on the hour all freaking night long! The history is... More

As an avid, "Virginian" watcher, I just had to visit Medicine Bow while driving through Wyoming. The Hotel was a wonderful surprise. It was beautiful, Service was great, and I don't know how they manage it, but, the freshest food we ate on the entire road trip was at the Virginian Hotel. Too Cool. One of the locals was kind... Yes, you may someday find yourself in Medicine Bow (thereby increasing the population to 287) and, if so, you should consider carefully your options. They are limited and it is likely that you'll find yourself in the Virginian Hotel. As experiences in Medicine Bow go, it is at the top of the heap. But, you may ask, why a refig... More

Driving across the USA on the Lincoln Highway which passes right by the Virginian. This hotel is like no other built around the author Owen Wister who created the the Virginian stories. His log cabin is across the road and worth a visit. We arrived at lunchtime and soon discovered that the hotel is very much used by the locals as... More

We're extreme budget travelers, but we were able to afford the Owen Wister suite, which was the best room in the place. We both used the claw foot tub and enjoyed relaxing in the sitting room. The place is packed full of history and antiques. If you absolutely must have a bathroom in your room, make sure you get a... More

Okay - you don't stay in a town like Medicine Bow, Wyoming and expect the kind of accommodations you'd get in a larger town. With a population under 300 - you're here for other reasons. The Virginian Hotel is just a huge piece of history. In the old section, which is absolutely stunning, you won't find telephones, televisions or air... More
