I travel a lot for business, and have wanted to stay here for awhile. Finally had the opportunity and was not disappointed! Wow, just, Wow! I stay in historic hotels as much as possible and this is now on my list of top 3. The best restored of it's age I have ever seen! Stay on a Thursday night and... More

If you want a place to stay that brings you back in time this is the place. So many original pieces of furniture from the 1800's that you get to use. We stayed in the Prairie Cowboy room. It was my first bath in a clawfoot tub. I just couldn't resist! Just walking up the staircase to the upper rooms... More

What an awesome experience! We stayed overnight at the Occidental on our way to Mount Rushmore from Yellowstone. We stayed in the "Cloud Peak" Suite which was in the corner on the 2nd floor and a few floors down from the library. We wanted this wing as the 'ghost' that was said to frequent this area was that of a... More

Give yourself the treat of seeing this place! The town is a pleasure in itself, a sweet break from the interstate, and the Occidental is the crown of it. Walk into the lobby, and remind youself that it isn't a museum or a movie set. Have a drink in the saloon, get a room for the night. One of my... More

Stopped at this hotel passing through Wyoming. Accommodated our late arrival, 26' moving truck, and puppy traveling with us. I would definitely stay here again. Clean room, soft towels and cozy room. Only complaint is the squeaky floors.

I love history and antiques... and this place has both. So glad to see a historic place brought back to life, and done well! The restaurant was fantastic, room was clean and comfortable. I have recommended it to many others over the years.

This place was terrific, it felt like stepping back into the past. I stayed in one of the "Cowboy Bunkhouse" rooms. It's not huge or modern, but it was clean and comfortable and felt very homey. The service was great in all areas, the folks at the desk were friendly and helpful, the staff at the restaurant was great and... More

We have been to Buffalo many times but this was our first time to stay at the Occidental. What a refreshing change from the usual chain hotel! We were in the Herbert Hoover Suite on the main level with quaint and authentic furnishings. For those who want total quiet - this is probably NOT the place. The floors creak, the... More

My husband and I stayed there two nights, What a great experience! It was just like being back in the "Old West". It is good to see history preserved so well and still being used today. The place was clean and the staff very friendly. If you are a Walt Longmire fan it is such a fun place to visit!

There are plenty of faux western destinations in the West today, but the Occidental, true to its name, is a hotel rooted in the short history of the American West, and run today with some of the idiosyncratic and informal touches that were likely typical of a century ago. The hotel has had its ups and downs, and some pretty... More
