I spent two nights in the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, in the room called The Outlaw. The reception is very friendly and helpful. Parts of the hotel are free to the public and worth a visit. Upstairs is only accesible for registered guests and my room was on the first floor. No airconditioning in my room as in the old... More

If you stay here, you need to accept the hotel for what it is and has been. It has history, creaking floorboards, basic decor and a homely Wild West attitude. It is not five star luxury, more "accept me for what I am, 'cos I ain't gonna change for no one". We made two mistakes. We chose a room more... More

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Occidental. The room was charming and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Dinner in the adjoining Virginian restaurant was the nicest meal of our two week motorcycle trip. We would plan to stay at the Occidental when we return to Buffalo next.

Stayed at the Occidental a couple of nights during July. Tried couple of different rooms. The cowboy bunkhouse was a great choice. Bathroom across the hall but was big and nice. Very historic and a nice stay. Met the owner first night sitting outside in a rocker on the sidewalk and had pleasant talk. Whole town is friendly and laid... More

The "Ox" as locals call it, is a beautifully maintained gem of a hotel and saloon from the 1800's. It was booked and we didn't get to stay here, but we did enjoy the Saloon and take a look around the public areas of the hotel. The very very friendly staff is happy to show the place to visitors. The... More

I stayed there in June for three nights and enjoyed these days very much. The weather wasn't very good, but if you are in the Occidental, it doesn't matter. Everybody who likes the history of the Old West should have been there, not only for a visit in the hotel of an hour, but for some days! Not to forget... More

On a 6000 mile roadtrip, I reserved the Hole in the Wall room for a night, to fall between the Badlands, Mt Rushmore and the Devil's Tower on the east, and Yellowstone on the west. Did not tell my wife. As we came into Buffalo after dark, she was completely puzzled where we would be spending the night, after passing... More

Tips for travelers, make sure you are going to stay the nights reserved because if you have a change of plans you will not get a refund unless ALL the rooms get rented. At first sight it is a lovely historic hotel, but our room, Owen Wister, had cockroaches, tons of dead bugs in windowsill, a broken toilet seat, mold... More

My wife and I were in Buffalo, WY for the July Longmire celebration. Great event in a great little town. If you are fortunate enough to visit, you MUST take in the Occidental Hotel and Saloon. It is loaded with old west history. We were not able to stay in one of the rooms frequented by famous characters like Butch... More

Linda and I stayed 3 nights in the President Hoover suite. We were very satisfied with the room(s), at least during the time we spent inside...All of the staff members were more than helpful in regards to information about places to see and things to do in the Buffalo/Johnson County area. Make sure to explore the rest of the hotel,... More
