This really is like a museum, with all the atmosphere and some challenges, as might be expected. The service, and the doors and floorboards, can all be a bit "creaky", but if you want the flavour of the old west, you couldn't do better.

Very interesting hotel! A living museum! We enjoyed our day in Buffalo, wandered the town and hung out at the hotel. Loved the saloon, had to have a drink! We fine dined in the Virginia Restaurant, in the vault! Great food, and really great atmosphere! The suite was clean, and the claw foot tub was fun! We also had a... More

We have stayed here twice. The floors are creaky and the air conditioning inadequate, but there is no better way to enjoy Longmire Days and downtown Buffalo. The owners and employees are wonderful and the atmosphere is genuine Old West. Not to be missed.

We booked a room here to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful time overall. The hotel is old, no doubt, and with that comes some allowances for quirky bathrooms, creaky floors, and few amenities that travelers may be used to in more modern places. If you are looking for something interesting, fun, and full of history, this is the... More

This is truly an old west hotel, you know that as soon as you step into the lobby. Since that's the experience we were looking for that was fine. Be forewarned there are dead animals everywhere. Parking can be a bit of a problem since it's on the street in downtown Buffalo. Once you're checked in they give you a... More

Exactly the kind of place that you hope you will find when you travel. Unique. Clean. Great attention to detail. Restaurant and Breakfast Diner both superb. Historic hotel with great charm. Worth driving out of your way for. All thumbs up! Thank you for a great stay!!

Receptions staff very helpful, I had a cold and lady on reception gave me vitamin c and extra tissues ! Beds extremely comfortable and huge! Warm, well appointed and a fascinating historical hotel to... More

We were disappointed with this hotel. It is very old and quaint. We stayed in the Herbert Hoover suite. I don't think anything has changed in that room since Herbert was there. The suite was laid out quite oddly. A bathroom without a sink is inbetween the sitting area (where the broken coffee pot was located) and the bedroom (where... More

We passed through Buffalo en route to Little Bighorn Battlefield and stopped there specifically to spend a night at the Occidental. Our suite, the Cottonwood, was very clean and comfortable. One touch of authenticity was the WiFi which worked as well in 2014 as it did 100 years ago. Had an enjoyable, tasty, dinner at the restaurant. Prices are reasonable... More

We stayed here on 19 September. When you stay here you feel like you are in the old west. The decor in the hotel is almost like a museum. The rooms were filled with antiques and are a bit quirky but it really makes the experience. Most importantly they were very clean. Dinner at the Virginian was good. If you... More
