Big plusses: large indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, great restaurant on site, gun club rental, museum-like lobby worth stopping to view stuffed bears, historic lodge including old photo history on hall behind lobby, rooms with kitchenette & bed variations available, price low; could be asking a lot more if remodeled/refreshed. Small breakfast included. Minuses: hallways dark & confusing; would help... More

the gateway is set in Land o Lakes Wisconsin...snowmobilers and hunters/fisherman probably find it as paradise...they have time share type suites so there are folks other than service people to clean. let me be fair in acknowledging that they had a big party of people staying and I switched my dates. My first room was ok ... no coffee but... More

We are enjoying our stay at the historic Gateway. Room 217 is an updated studio with Kitchenette, dining table, Comfy Queen size Bed, Queen pull-out sofa bed, 8 drawer dresser and bedside table with lamp. A ceiling fan with light sits above the bed. The Bathroom has a fan, built-in space heater, full size tub and a standard single sink/cabinet... More

My husband and stayed at The Gateway and had mixed reviews. We traveled with friends to this property. The lodge has some cool history and a HUGE fireplace in the lobby. I understand that each room is different due to being owned by different people. Our room was dark, dreary and hadn't been updated in a VERY long time, if... More

The main lobby at this hotel is very cozy with a huge fireplace and many seating areas. There are taxidermy animals all around which is common in the Northwoods. Our room was a 2 room suite. There was a pull-out sofa in the main living room along with a table and chairs. The kitchen nook was fully stocked with dishes,... More

This is a small town hotel. If you're looking for fancy dressed up rooms, this is not your place. Each room is different, some of them are not owned by the hotel, but by a private owner which is why each room is unique. Its a very old building, so you get the very old building creeks, and squeaks. The... More

Being from California we had no idea what to expect when arriving at an historic lodge in Wisconsin. Our room was quite large, including a small kitchen and eating area. The bathroom was very small. The décor was obviously original and we had a small giggle when we located the TV high up on the wall. It was no more... More

Very dated room, does not look like anything has been updated since the 1950's. Walls and creaky floors/ceilings are paper thin and you can hear everything at all hours. There was a wedding in the restaurant and bar so we had to go out & find other options for dinner. The pool area was ok although the hot tub was... More

We stayed there on the weekend of April 5-7 2013. We loved the place. If you're looking for glam and ritz this isn't the place. If you're looking for a really cool old northwoods lodge, with a ton of history and nostalgia this is the place for you. Everything was exceptionally clean and well cared for. In the dining room... My family lives in the Northwoods of Minnesota but this 'Northwoods of Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan' was wonderful. We plan on visiting again next year and the Gateway is the place to visit and stay at. We wish we had more time to take in the area, but two days weren't near enough. The lodge is old, the... More
