We stayed at this hotel to break up the drive between Monteverde and Manuel Antonio. The rooms are decent, but not quite worth the $130 they charge (all-inclusive). The AC units are small and never quite catch up with the humidity outside. They obviously don't check the rooms as the one we stayed in hadn't been looked at in a... More

We stayed at the Villa Lapas for two nights, May 25-26, 2007. Our tour was accomodations only, so we were not part of the all-inclusive plan that is offered at Villa Lapas, and boy, we wish we were. Since we got such a fantastic rate on our tour, we originally didn't mind that we had to pay for our own... More

The location of this hotel is spot on for birders, and with a free bar, good food and fantastic rooms it is no wonder why it is difficult to get in! It is really close to the Carara NP and Tarcoles Estuary which are two of the regions birding hotspots. The food was lovely and the location of the hotel... More

We stayed at Villa Lapas for 2 nights toward the end of a two week organized tour of the country in January 2007. Compared to the other hotels and eco-lodges we stayed at during the trip, this one was disappointing. To be fair, we must add that we didn't have a chance to compare it to other lodges in the... The grounds of the hotel were nice, but the service was poor. We stayed for 3 days and our room was never cleaned the entire time. When we brought this to their attention, they never sent anyone to the room to even bring clean towels after asking them 3 times. We ended up leaving there a day early and staying... More

This was a sort of last minute decision. I read about this place while on the beach in Manuel Antonio and then booked three nights en route to Monteverde. The drive up to the hotel is beautiful. It's a small dirt road off the main road and it winds up through secondary rainforest. I drove past the hotel for a... More

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in February, 2006. In most respects we liked it and would recommend it highly. However, we would not return if we were assigned the same room. First the good points. The setting is wonderful, in a small valley with a stream running through it. The clearing attracts numerous birds, including scarlet... More

We stayed at the Villa Lapas for 4 nights from 20th Jan. The grounds are nice & it is interesting looking for frogs/toads & birds which included scarlet macaws, toucans, ibis & trogans. However, although we were aware the accommodation was going to be basic, it was worse than expected. Our room smelt very musty & it was the only... More

Our family of 4 (son 17, daughter 14) spent less than 24 hours here and wish it had been longer. The setting is unique and special. The rooms weren't great but were adequate. The buffet food was OK. The toad that greeted us on the way to dinner was a fun surprise. The entertainment was excellent. The shops were full... More

Great zip line tours at the villa Lapis. Would avoid staying at the hotel. Spiders & webs in corners of the room and very musty smelling. Rooms basically furnished (matresses without matress pads, etc.) Food below average with ants crawling all over the ice cream station. I would avoid staying at the villa Lapis.Would stop & do their zip line... More
