We were on a trip heading south and looking for a place to say that was nice but wouldn't break the bank. There wasn't many signs on the freeway for motels, but thankfully our GPS showed the Mecan River Inn.
It is a bit out of the way, but that means it is in the country and away from any traffic. I was actually quite surprised to find such a nice, new, building in such an out of the way location. The rate is reasonable and the rooms are large. Ours had two queen beds, a table with two chairs, mini-fridge, and microwave.
The motel is also convently located across the street from the Mecan River bar which is owned by the same people. In fact if you show up after hours (like we did) you have to go to the bar to check in. The bar is a "biker" bar, but don't let the rough looking crowd fool you, it is a great place the welcomes everyone.
