This is the second time we have made the 6 hour drive from Chicago. The property is One of a kind. Beautiful, serene, quiet, with quaint yet luxurious cabins. This is as close as I get to camping! The food is excellent in the dining room. The delivery breakfast is Ok. Lunch also Ok. Bring some snacks and drinks for... More

Canoe Bay is a lovely tract of land, populated by very comfortable cabins. The staff is friendly, although not as sophisticated as one might expect for a property at this price point. The most notable (and somewhat surprising) element of the experience is the relative structure and regimentation; breakfast is only available in one's cabin, with a fairly limited menu,... More

We learned about Canoe Bay through various magazine articles. It sounded like a Midwest version of Post Ranch in CA (where we were married). As frequent travelers to Minneapolis, we added a few days onto a Minneapolis trip and headed to Canoe Bay. We spent three nights there. We originally reserved the Escape cottage but were upgraded to a Lakeside... More

This resort is a trek to get to ( if you do not happen to live in Wisconsin) but is the perfect place to restore your marriage. The cottages (we had dream #24) are extremely comfortable and relaxing. Breakfast is included and delivered outside your door. Lunch and dinner are available. The food we had was well prepared. There are... More

Canoe Bay is quite simply the most relaxing, luxurious getaway we've ever taken. Visited on our "mini-moon" after our destination wedding. Spent two nights in the Dream Cabin #9 and it was amazing. Privacy is clearly of the utmost importance to the staff, so it creates a very intimate environment for you and your sweetheart. You definitely get the service... More

Canoe Bay has a formula they think works, but it doesn't entirely and they will likely not change it. The overall atmosphere is of a very pretty sanatorium or the headquarters of a benign cult. The documentation tells you very clearly what you must do or not do ( do not jog on the paths, do not dive in the... More

Thank you for the kind words about our very friendly and genuine staff, who work hard every day to “set the stage” so guests can readily enjoy this delightful setting without being disturbed. Clearly, Canoe Bay is not for everyone, but the wonderful thing about Relais & Chateaux is that no two properties in this global association are the same.... More

Whether the official verdict from hotel rating companies is five star will mean nothing to us or guests who frequent this establishment. It is very well managed and just a delight to occupy. I love to stay places where I see the owners working at the hotel each day. The rooms are just beautiful and so nicely maintained we could... More

Go for the food! It is comparable to a five star restaurant. Location was convenient for is as we live in the Twin Cities. But I wouldn't say it would be worth a long drive or a plane ride. Accommodations were comfortable and rustic but soothing. So many mosquitoes and ticks that we couldn't enjoy the outdoors!

My husband and I spent a beautiful weekend here over the Fourth of July. It was truly a wonderful experience and we left feeling rested and revitalized. Below I have detailed the elements of our weekend including opinions on value for different pieces, what's worth the splurge, etc. This review is long- feel free to skip around to the sections... My husband and I spent a weekend in the beautiful "Heavenly Suite" directly on the lake. We sat on the wrap around deck and watched a family of deer roam within feet of our room. While in our suite and outside on the deck it felt like we were the only people there. Only at the delicious dinner did we... More
