Don't reserve site 34. We were stuck there for 5 days. Bathroom super hiway with one tree between picnic table and traffic. This site was the drainage ditch for this entire new camp ring. Honestly, it was never dry. We had to cut our routes to drain puddles....mud mud mud. This loop of sites was looking great and is new.... More

The Park is beautiful and the campsites are large, quiet and most are well shaded. Book about 6 months before going as the sites go very quickly and there are only a few walk up sites. You can check for walk up sites at the ferry entrance as they post if the park is full there or you can phone... More

All considered, most likely the best state campground I have every visited. The nearby beach was amazing. There was a very well maintained nature path. Restrooms were clean and camping spots had good access to beach. Park is about 5 miles from town.

First off, when hitting the road to tour on a tight accommodation budget, we like to mix it up between motels and quick'n easy overnight camping. To that end, we've found State Parks to be a safe bet, with the added bonus of some unique natural beauty, just outside our 'door.' So for us, this looked like a great opportunity... More

The park is just a beautiful spot with wonderful camping. The boardwalk hike along the shore has excellent viewpoints of the surrounding woods and Lake Superior. We camped this fall as it is almost impossible to find a camping site without advanced planning and reservations. I just wish they would update the shower facilities with the volume of campers needing... More

Big Bay State Park is beautiful. The beach was wonderful. The water was a little cold but it was still fun. The kids like building sand castles. There were shorter hiking trails by the lagoon for people who don't want to go a long hike. There are awesome rock formations. It is a great area to get family pictures done.... More

My boyfriend and I were looking forward to a weekend in Big Bay State Park but it was hands down, the worst camping trip we have ever been on. It rained off and on the 20 days prior to our visit (mid June) and this resulted in a biting black fly infestation that made it unbearable to do anything: camp,... More

About 6 miles from town (bring your bike, the shoulder is big and road relatively flat, in good condition), this state park is pristine. Kayaks can be rented & paid in town then just meet up at the beach right here. Another alternative is to drive to the park adjacent to the campground and launch your own, or if your... More

This was our first visit to Madeline Island. We camped for two nights in Big Bay State Campground. Round-trip ferry price was $57 for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 car. Overall, the stay was very nice. Our campsite backed up against the forest and gave our daughter plenty of area to explore. We ventured on two trails and both... More

This island is big and beautiful. We took the ferry over with our car, 2 adults and one child $57. We first drove around the island and it is mostly forest. We ate lunch in town and then went back to the state park. The state park is clean and the beach is beautiful. The water is shallow for 100... More
