We stayed here for a family wedding, planned months in advance and as always plans change. The hotel were incredibly helpful when we changed our reservation about, when accommodation was needed early to allow guests to change, to allocate a room for an elderly guest unsteady on their feet and booking a taxi at the last minute to get us... We have just returned from a relaxing weekend break at this lovely establishment, and I can`t fault it. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. From the moment that we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly and sincere welcome, and this continued throughout our stay. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was very peaceful and relaxing, and our room in... More

A pleasant, shady garden surrounds this beautiful hotel. There is an attractive swimming pool with sunny patios, a comfortable summerhouse complete with lounging and friendly Birman cats and welcoming outside seating for diners if the weather is kind. And then one walks inside to find an immaculately decorated and comfortable interior, with tasteful furnishings and walls displaying paintings by a... More

Stayed at this lovely independent hotel for a short anniversary break. A peaceful setting and convenient for exploring Norwich and The Broads. All the staff were helpful and welcoming and we were pleased that we risked booking half board as the evening meals were delicious. Good breakfasts with perfect poached eggs each morning. Our room in the coach house was... More

Have just returned from a peaceful short break staying at the Georgian Listed Building - the Old Rectory. Heaps of charm and excellent beds, with good food and very efficient staff and owners. The hotel is set in landscaped gardens with a variety of seating areas set around an unheated swimming pool. We went by train and we were pleasantly... More

My wife and I stayed here for a week as a base to explore Norwich and Norfolk. Our double room on the first floor overlooking the beautiful front garden was very comfortable. The trees and hedges surrounding the lawn create a secluded effect, enhanced by the house being set well back up a driveway from the road through the village.... More

A beautiful hotel with wonderful period furnishings. We had a lovely room with a very large bathroom complete with a balcony overlooking the garden. Breakfasts were superb, freshly cooked to order and with just the right amount of food to avoid the feeling that you have eaten too much! We did have dinner on the first night - the menu... More

The Old Rectory is situated in mature gardens on the outskirts of Norwich next to a busy railway line. The first train entered via the bedroom window, exiting via the bathroom at precisely 4.40 am. The last train passed through at midnight.. We stayed for 3 nights during a very hot spell so all the windows were wide open. During... More

After reading good reviews on this hotel a few years ago, and trying to book a reservation with them several times only to be told they were fully booked my patience was rewarded! This hotel was everything I could wish for. The food is frankly beyond description, and was to die for!! The owner Chris was really lovely, and nothing... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory Hotel is a beautiful Georgian House, with adjoining Victorian Coach House, standing in an acre of mature secluded gardens on the eastern fringes of Norwich, overlooking the Yare valley and Thorpe Marshes nature reserve . We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served at your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Our Dining Room is open Monday to Saturday evening (closed Sunday), with a daily changing 2 AA Rosette menu featuring freshly prepared, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The elegant intimate, Georgian panelled room has just six tables so be sure to book dinner in advance as we regret we cannot guarantee availability of a table, nor a particular time, where dinner reservations have not been made prior to arrival. The hotel is 2 miles from Norwich railway station (services to London, Cambridge, the Norfolk Coast and intermediate stations) and the city centre with its Norman Castle and Cathedral, medieval churches, excellent shopping facilities and open air market. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
