We've stayed here several times - it's a good place to sit and enjoy the mountain view or to use as a home base for a ski trip. Much cheaper and friendlier than staying at Snowshoe, and less than 1/2 hour drive to the slopes.
Really pleasant hosts are very knowledgable about the area. We tend to ski one day and hike the next - Doug and Joy are able to recommend the best places to walk. They also have the knack of introducing people - we've enjoyed our breakfast conversations with other guests.
As noted in another review, the place would be worth it for the fireplace alone - Doug had a fire going every morning and evening. There's also Joy's breakfasts, which have been a little different every time we've visited.
