If you want knew and modern, stay out of town at one of the chain places. If you want clean, historic, and walking distance to everything in town, this is the place. The baths could use an update, and plan on lugging your own suit cases upstairs, but friendly and clean. Comfy bed and lots of hot water.

This is a great place to stay. We go each year for a family reunion and this is a perfect place to have it. Nice sitting areas, breakfast lunch and dinner served on site. Walking distance to downtown Lewisburg restaurants and shops. New owners really nice and are doing nice new things to this historic hotel. I am excited already... More

Stayed in the charming family suite with four other friends riding the Greenbriar Trail. We had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant. The meal was really 5 star caliber. The room was very nice and comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was again wonderful. Hosts were very friendly and intent on making your stay perfect. Location is great if you... More

From check-in to checkout, everything was great. Many thoughtful touches in our room. It's fun to be able to see the furnishings in other rooms before they are occupied, too and of course, see so many interesting items of the past. We thought we'd have dinner down the street but after seeing so many local diners arriving, we changed our... More

Stayed here for a family reunion and was very pleasantly surprised. I though it might be a little run down but the room and hotel were very clean and I loved the architecture with original beam ceilings from 1834. There is a ton of history just inside the hotel with displays of old civil war artifacts. We only ate breakfast... More

So the rooms and decor are not up to Ritz Carlton standards. You're staying here because of the location a stone's throw from the restaurants and shops of Lewisberg and for the historical ambiance. The General Lewis is a little funky because it's historic, but its quirks are a welcome respite from cookie-cutter chains. Rooms have all the mod cons... More

My Mom and I had a wonderful stay at an Inn at which we had eaten dinner in the past. It was really our first Inn experience and it was a total pleasure. There is such charm and history at the General Lewis. We stayed over the Labor Day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the service, the rooms we had and... More

If you love history, period antiques and collectibles, this is an experience you won't want to miss. Each room has its own charming decor, right down to the handmade quilts displayed at the foot of the bed. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Be sure to take time to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine on the front... More

I have stayed at some of the finest hotels in the US and rate the General Lewis as among the very best of them. If the stress and tension of modern living is working overtime in your mind, the Inn may be just what you need to refresh your perspective. The historical setting of the property almost makes you want... More

The General Lewis is a charming, historic landmark in one of the nation's small town gems with new ownership enhancing aesthetics, dining and quality of service. You will enjoy this trip back in time. Have breakfast there and allow 20 year veteran (Michael) Coleman to guide you to morning culinary delight. And do not miss lunch or dinner at Stardust,...
