This is one of my favorite places. The train ride is so much fun. Went as a child and now taking my grandchildren. The train ride will get you a little sooty but the views more than make up for it. There is a place to buy food and drinks at the top. The open trains expose you to nature... More

Great place for family. We camped in the forest the night before and it was so reftesting and cool. The drive into the state park was perfect. Small road with lots of waterfalls all around. We did the 2.5 hour ride and for my young ones it was enough. If I traveled with just my wife I would do the... More

We rented a three bedroom company house in the village just down the road from the Cass train station. The old wooden house was simply furnished with all the kitchen supplies you would need to cook and sleeping beds for 6. A BBQ and picnic table was provided outside. The highlight of the stay are the two train rides -... More

We rented one of the company houses for a long weekend. It was much nicer that a hotel and we were on the state park property. If you are expecting a pristine modern house then this is not for you, but if you want to step back in time, you're in the right place. The homes are stuck in time... More

We were tired of the long drive from Roanoke, VA to Cass and after the train ride to Bald Knob so we stayed at a company house in the tiny town of Cass, WV. We're on Main St. and it's so cute and the house is nice and clean and cozy. Of course there's no a/c but small screens you... More

We rented one of the cabins in Cass. We were comfortable but be aware that although the houses sleep 6 or more there is only one small bathroom and no A/C. Usually Cass is cool at night and you can leave the second story windows open. floor fans are provided. We had a little glitch with the transportation from the... More

Great experience for those looking for a relaxing day. We did the Whittaker trip which was around 2 1/2 hours and we did the tour of the train workshop. Hunter was a great tour guide and I learned a lot about the trains at the park. You can ask train staff questions and when you reach the the recreated village... More

A great getaway for the family. Slowed down life and took it all in... Coming here is becoming a generational trip. I came as a child with my grandparents and now bring my family. Nothing fancy but, sometimes that is what is needed and it is a good thing.

We just returned from a two day trip to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. We spent one night in one of the cabins. The cabin was very comfortable and has an excellent kitchen. Bring your own food - not much option to buy supplies close by. Cabin was rustic, but very comfortable. Bathroom was small, but adequate. Took the two... More

Just spent the weekend in Cass, WV with 11 other family members. We stayed in one of the houses in the town. First off, the town is adorable. It has a lot of white similar houses that you can rent for a few nights. The town seems so old and that is what is beautiful about it. You get the... More
