My husband and I stayed at Thornewood Castle on our honeymoon. We weren't sure quite what to expect after reading the other tripadvisor reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable our stay was. The staff was extremely pleasant (then again, there was only one other party staying there...perhaps they handle smaller groups better?) and the grounds were well-groomed... more

Staff didn't even say hello, they were rude, hands-off, and told us nothing of the history of the castle. Plus the food was HORRIBLE more

Beautiful old castle - however, I'd suggest being certain there are NO weddings scheduled to take place during your stay (unless you're a guest of or in the wedding party)... We stayed at the Thornwood castle a couple summers ago and the castle itself was nicely updated, clean, warm and welcoming. The gardens and the view of the lake were lovely. We found that it was a little off the beaten path however, and that the innkeepers were a bit preoccupied with the weddings that were at the castle over... more
