We have stayed at Thornewood Castle 3 times over the past couple of years, and we are looking forward to coming and staying again! Upon arrival, which only guests are allowed to enter (meaning no one who isn't staying at the castle can visit it), it was like you were stepping back in time. The garden is absolutely beautiful and... More

Our trip to see Tacoma's famous Museum of Glass was punctuated by two nights at Thornewood Castle. My husband revels in his winter get-away surprises. This year he outdid himself. Just minutes away from Fort Lewis Army base is this Edwardian haven. We were the only overnight guests and were treated royally (what else) by the owner and the one-woman... More

Thank you very much for your kind words! We are so glad you had such an enjoyable stay here at Thornewood; and it is wonderful that you took the time to admire the centuries-old stained glass collection! As I'm sure you saw, we have over 100 pieces all ranging from the 13th-17th century! We do hope that you will visit... More

What a romantic place! Thoroughly enjoyed Thornewood Castle. Lived in the Tacoma area years ago, and never knew this place existed. Am I glad I found it! Arrived on a weekend, and yes there was a wedding (a frequent occurrence at this venue) taking place. Who could blame them? A castle on a lake, beautiful gardens, antiques and privacy. What... More

Thank you for such a nice review! We were very happy to have you stay with us. Yes, weddings are fairly common here, especially in nice weather! We always try to inform our B&B guests if we have a wedding when they book, that way there are no surprises! We are so glad you enjoyed breakfast so much, and thank... More

It is not every night that you get to spend the night in a castle. When we went, we almost had the place to ourselves except one room. We were able to explore the castle and it was interesting. It was the sort of thing that is fun to do at least once in your lifetime. The brunch in the... More

We have traveled extensively throughout the world. In our travels, we have stayed at some of the finest mansions/castles throughout England and Ireland, and I consider Thornewood Castle on par with these overseas accommodations. In fact, I might even give Thornewood a slightly better rating because not only did we have the privilege of living, for a short period of... More

My husband and I were VERY excited to visit Thornewood for our honeymoon. When we arrived we were reminded that there was a wedding happening by the fact that we couldn't find somewhere to park. At $300 a night you would think we would have somewhere to park our car..The grounds and the inn were very beautiful on the outside.... More

My husband and I fell in love with Thornewood as we were searching for wedding and reception venues! Our wedding was beautiful and everyone that came to the wedding thought the venue was simply stunning. The staff at Thornewood are great, very friendly and helpful. There are just a couple suggestions I would recommend to Thornewood. We felt that the... More

This must have been a beautiful estate (hardly a "castle") when it was built 105 years ago, but it's tatterworn and delapidated now. Carpeting is threadbare, brick is broken, doors are split, loose and showing multiple repair efforts, paint is peeling, air-conditioning doesn't work. All that would be tolerable if there were warm and friendly redeeming features, but there aren't.... More

June 12 2012: Our family reserved three castle rooms and the two bedroom apartment. With a early 70 year range in years, each of us took away a unique memory from Thornewood. All were impressed with the cleanliness, the artifacts, the ambience of a calm and peaceful retreat. We asked for a few items and they were immediately brought to... More

This place has endless potential. I had my wedding here and fell in love with the garden and house immediately. I booked it but was disappointed when a few months later, I found out about some "additions". The owner had added VERY tacky sculptures all over the garden and ruined the best part, the tiny reflection pond with an ugly... More
