I chose this place for a beach weekend. The price was a lot lower than any of the beachfront motels, we paid around $50. This is a huge complex of one story buildings from the '50s, just south of downtown on the old US highway. When we arrived, there were quite a few dubious-looking types sitting on the hoods of their cars in front of the office. We almost left, but decided to stick it out. Some of our fellow travelers were definitely just north of down-and-outers, young couples paying for the room with crumpled bills.
We got a room fairly close to the office, which I felt better about. The rooms are huge. They're showing their age, but everything was reasonably clean. The bathroom had very nice original black and white tile.
None of the iffy-looking folks caused any trouble or made much noise, and we decided that they were nearly all younger people on a beach vacation, but too poor to stay in Virginia Beach. There were a few older folks as well. If...
