After a extensive and frustrating search, my best friend, a Va Beach resident, and I finally fell upon the Dunes as a affordable solution for our memorial weekend plans. We're both budget-conscious college students and were able to stay there from Friday to Tuesday for around $600, which was great price considering the holiday. The events that were going on,... My friend got our room on Orbitz for $116.00 per night. The front desk tried to up our room charge on the weekend nights to over $130.00. We wouldn't have it! We had some of the same problems as an earlier guest in a different room... we were in 415. The door to the room stuck. The big green heavy... More

ITS A GOOD THING ITS COMING DOWN IN A MONTH!....and you gotta LOVE the double parking...AND closet size elevators...??? The Dunes has gone down hill...but other than that.. for the short time we were there it served its purpose for the most affordable hotel on the beach...

Upon arrival, I must admit the exterior of the Dunes looked a little sketchy, but once in my room, I was pleased with its cleanliness and appearance. The staff was friendly and even let me check in 5 hours early. This was very important considering it took me 10 hours to drive to Virginia. I cannot speak for the other... More

We just got back (Aug 22, 2005). This is in no way a 3 star hotel. The rooms were very ordinary and the carpet was old and torn. I had to slam the door (an I mean real hard) to close it. The bathroom is very small and cramped. Beds were clean though (some relief). One good thing about this... More

This is no way a three star hotel. I made our reservations on orbitz, which describes the place with a restaurant, room service and free bike rentals, there was none of that. The room was ok, just your normal room, we had a light bulb needing replaced and they came right away, which was good. After I checked out, I... More

Pictures are deceiving. It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, for $171.00 a night. Bathroom small, shower rusty. Carpeting dingy and dirty. Dresser drawers wouldn't close. Hoping for a sliding glass door to the ocean, and its a big steel green door that made noises everytime you opened it. Windows looking outside filthy. Housekeeping only made one bed and... More

The Dunes is in a great location, but the rooms are nothing special. Nice balconies, though. A bit of advice: put out your "Do Not Disturb" sign every moment you are in your room. We had the housekeeping staff knocking on our door at 9 AM when we didn't have it out, and calling our room at 10 AM when... More

I had cancelled my reservation with this hotel 7 days in advance. My credit card was still charged. When I called the hotel to confront them about this charge they told me that I was a no show and there was nothing that they could do. In this process, I was yelled at and hung up on 3 times by... The Virginia Beach - beach front is not known for luxury. Most of the hotels are older, but have been renovated and well-kept. The Dunes is no exception. It has been relatively well kept. However, they are tearing it down and building new in the fall - so this review will be moot after that! Overall, we were very happy... More
