This was my husband’s and my fourth visit to The Essex Inn in Tappahannock, VA – that fact alone should speak volumes about how we feel about this bed and breakfast. This time, we were joined by relatives, who stayed in the Quarters. It is hard to say what we like most about the inn – the hosts, the breakfasts,... more

If you pass through TappyTown you must stay here. Reeves and Melodie are the best host and hostess making sure that thier guests are catered for in every regard. Will be back. more

My husband and I had a small wedding in October 2008 at the Essex Inn, and it was the perfect location. Melodie and Reeves, the Innkeepers, were so incredible in helping my family and me set up for the wedding, and Melodie even manned the bar during the wedding in order to give the bartender a break. I had family... more

My fiancee and I were recently in Tappahannock for the wedding of two close friends. This is a great option if your travels take you to this part of the country. The B&B is well appointed and the rooms are well decorated. The breakfast was the best I have ever had at a B&B. If you enjoy the B&B experience,... more

We stayed there this past weekend while attending a family event nearby and were so pleased. It is restored and decorated beautifully with every amenity thought of for your comfort. The breakfasts were gourmet caliber. They have a room just for snacks with coffee, teas, biscotti, nuts, wine etc. and yes beer on tap. The men in my family loved... more

Great Bed and Breakfast. The couple who manage the place are very frendly and have a number of cats who appear at various times of the day. This B&B appears to be recently done up, and is in great shape. The butlers pantry with the beer on tap (included in the room charge when I visited) is an excellent idea,... more

lovely house and B&B. Great breakfasts and a butler's pantry with snacks and 2 beers on tap! I Just had to sample the Sierra Nevada draft and it was excellent, but I had to check a few times to ensure I wasn't wrong. Not much to see and do in Tappahannock, 2 reasonable restaurants Lowerys and Frerebees, not fine dining... more
