My wife and I just spent two nights in the Essex Inn. From the instant we arrived we were treated warmly and made to feel at home. The accommodations were immaculate and well appointed. The food and drinks, also spectacular. It was by far the nicest bed and breakfast experience that we have ever had. We will definitely make a... More

We loved everything about the Essex Inn. The home is absolutely beautiful with lovely furnishings, gas fireplaces in every room, delicious food, comfortable beds, pristinely clean, hospitable and knowledgeable hosts and innkeepers. We can't wait to return. We travel a lot and this B&B is on the top of our "favorites" list.

Beautiful and inviting. The owners don't miss a beat. Will definitely visit again. The area has a pop of 3,000 so limited attractions. Very nice walking tour of historic homes, a nice restaurant in walking distance, The Fat Finch. 1 block from the Rappahannock River. Antique shops in walking distance. Very restful. The breakfast was amazing, pumpkin bread pudding with... More

My husband and I spent our 1st anniversary in the Blue Room and the Essex Inn. I could not imagined anything more romantic. They provided a glass of champagne, flowers and cake on our arrival. Breakfast the next morning was fabulous. We shared stories with the other guests and really felt at home. It was our first time staying at... More

Beautiful historic setting, perfect hosts, homey lodgings, GREAT breakfast! This was our first time at a B&B and we really had no idea what to expect exactly - we just weren't sure about such a relatively intimate encounter (when you consider the normal interaction one has w/other guests and staff at an hotel) - but the hosts carried out the... My wife and I stayed for two nights at the Essex Inn. Rick and Jeremy are the consummate hosts. The historic home is beautiful and well kept. The grounds are immaculate. Breakfast is modest but more than enough and very good with local ingredients and jam from Quince fruit in their yard. Ya, I didn’t know what a Quince fruit... More

Our trip to the Essex Inn was given to us as a wedding gift. We enjoyed our stay very much. The Inn is beautiful and the staff Jeremy & Rick were wonderful. Our suite 207 was beautiful and very clean and cozy. The breakfast they served was fantastic chef Rick is amazing and should be recognized as a Top Chef.... More

We stayed for one night this past weekend. From the moment we arrived, Rick, Jeremy and Charlie the dog were awesome. They were friendly and checked on us periodically to see if we needed anything. They went above and beyond to make sure our stay was amazing. We stayed in the Red room. The bed was extremely comfortable. The house,... More

This property survived bombardment of Tappahannock by the British during the War of 1812. It is authentic and lovingly maintained by the caretakers Jeremy and Rick. Jeremy is a gracious and attentive host and Rick is a gourmet cook. We truly felt welcome and at home, not like the feeling of being intruders that overshadowed us at other B&B's that... More
