The Essex Inn is an elegant home in quaint town about 2 hours outside of Washington, DC. This was our second visit and just like our first a year ago it was lovely. The in keepers, Jermey and Rick, are warm hosts who aim to make your stay special. This visit we stayed in the upstairs "Red Room" in the... More

For picking a B&B on a whim and making a reservation the day before, I think my mother and I lucked out when we ended up at The Essex Inn. Also we got the last available room, the laundry suite, so we were doubly lucky on that front. Set in the sleepy, small Virginia town of Tappahannock, The Essex Inn... More

My husband and I spent two nights at the Essex Inn over a holiday weekend. The hosts were gracious, the main home was grand and our breakfast each morning was delicious. The first morning there was a buffet because the Inn was full - scrambled eggs, farm fresh bacon, tomatoes with basil, cinnamon roll bread pudding, fresh fruit, mini ham... More

It is our goal at the Essex Inn for every guest to have a "5-star" experience. We're sorry that you did not find your stay as enjoyable as our other guests and we wanted to address your issues. We unfortunately do not administer our own internet services (I wish!). If our Service Provider is having issues, we have very little... More

We were looking for comfort, quiet and a little luxury, and we found all of these and more at the Essex Inn. The breakfasts were just superb, and the extra facilities of the Butler's Pantry provided refreshment during relaxing afternoons in the lovely garden. Ric and Jeremy were excellent hosts - nothing was too much trouble. Very highly recommended.

My wife and I recently enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Essex Inn. My ancestors lived in the area in the late 17th and early 18th century and we were doing a "roots tour". Rick and Jeremy are great hosts. We were greeted with a tour of the lovey historic house. A beautiful home and lovely grounds. In my... More

Over the years, I have stayed in many B&Bs when I travel on vacation as I find B&Bs to be generally much more entertaining, unique and interesting than hotels. In a really great B&B, the owners can put as much love and personality into the establishment as they can afford and can imagine. But I've also found, over the years,... More

My boo rented a convertible and booked a room at the Essex, as a 'no reason' trip, because he's incredible like that. Essex Inn and its proprietors (Jeremy and Rick) were equally incredible! The grounds, perfect hammock, Sat AM outside yoga class, free wine and beer and treats whenever you want it, and even a two-story suite with kitchenette... my... More

The Essex Inn is beautiful in structure and full of lovely period furniture. The food is outstanding and the Inn keepers gracious, hospitable, and fun. There are snacks for evening consumption along with a choice of a white or red wine. Breakfast is served at your choice of time between 8 and 9:30 and was so good. We loved our... More

I was looking for a quiet retreat near a body of water that was elegant, had a super breakfast and had lots of comfortable places to sit and read. The Essex Inn had all of this in spades. They are one block from the Rappahannock River - distantly visible from the Green Room's window. There is a hammock for 2... More

Rick and Jeremy have an awesome B&B. Their energy and care for the place is second to none. They are doing wonderful things in the community. I felt like we were life long friends just after 3 days. The INN is fabulous and the breakfast was incredible. They have not overlooked any details to make your stay enjoyable. They also... More
