Was there for a conference this weekend. Stink bugs everywhere. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and spiders and spider webs were everywhere. We were in the Ridgecrest and web site states wifi but no one was able to stay connected in the rooms. Room was dark and musty. I am all for rustic but not dirty. Our sink... More

Based on positive TripAdvisor reviews and a 2014 Certificate of Excellence, we were looking forward to weekend at Graves Mountain Lodge. Upon check-in, we were assigned Ridgecrest room #111. The exterior of the building and room door were covered with stink-bugs. Stink-bugs could also be seen crawling on the window inside the bedroom. Upon entering the dingy, dark, and musty... More

We took our first trip to Graves Mountain lodge this past weekend. It was memorable both for its up as well as its downs. First, the positives: the area is lovely and quite scenic. This spot is nestled in the foothills of the mountains and enjoys beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There is an excellent winery nearby (DuCard) and a variety... More

We just had a fun three-day weekend at Graves with our 2 year old. Highlights included throwing pebbles in the stream, "swimming" in the baby pool, playing "baketball" with Daddy, examining a friendly centipede up close, seeing a scary giant turkey gobble impressively, and singing several rousing choruses of Ba Ba Black Sheep to two bemused ovines. The food is... More

Hello, Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend here. There really is a tremendous amount of fun to be had poking around the farm and grounds, even for the non-hikers. I've passed your comment about the tables on to the kitchen manager. We have several highchairs and booster seats, and if you ever... More

We have gone to graves mountain for the apple festival every year for 12 years. We stay in the upper cabin with 3 other families. It is called a camping cabin, but it is fairly clean and the bathroom was remodelled. We have a great time, visiting the festival, hiking around the cabin, and hanging at the fire pit. It... More

Thanks for your review on TripAdvisor. I'm glad you liked the Upper Cabin - it's a favorite with hiking clubs and big families. If the Upper Cabin is ever booked when you call to make a reservation, ask for the Lower Cabin, which is similar in layout and within walking distance from the Main Lodge. This year's Apple Harvest Festival... More

This was a interesting trip for me. Sort of Like sleep away camp. I enjoyed it very much. I went for a retreat which was great. There was plenty of time to relax and reflect because my cell phone could not find a signal. So don't plan to conduct a lot of business while you are there! The rooms were... More

Thanks for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed the food and the quiet. We're incredibly lucky here to be able to maintain such a peaceful atmosphere in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the modern world. The view certainly helps. (And for those who feel anxious without a cell phone, we do have free wi-fi Internet available... More

This is a great place in a beautiful part of the world. The food is outstanding Virginia country fare, and the staff are courteous, friendly and helpful. BUT: we stayed in "the old farmhouse" and it was nearly uninhabitable! The room was dirty, the bed saggy, the stench in the room -- some mix of ashes, mildew, and disinfectant --... More

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, I'm glad that you enjoyed the meals and found the staff helpful, but I'm sorry that the room was not to your satisfaction. What room were you in? I will ask the maintenance team to check the plumbing in the bathrooms and showerhouse so that other guests can have a better stay... More

This is a wonderful old-school rustic lodge in a fabulous setting. Yes, the motel rooms are dated but that works for me. It is a family run retreat and not fancy. It is clean, has great views, and about 10 degrees cooler than the summer inferno of the urban East Coast. Having spent time in the Catskills this lodge is... More

Thank you for your review. Yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head. We are a rustic retreat in close proximity to all the wonderful outdoor activities of the Shenandoah National Park. Guests can expect modest accommodations with plentiful, tasty food and great customer service. It's a rare breed of motel, indeed, although not intended for those seeking... More

I had the pleasure of staying at Graves Mountain Lodge during a recent motorcycle trip. The staff was wonderful, friendly and very helpful and the food was outstanding - and there was SO much of it - all included with the price of the room! :) The rooms were definitely a bit rustic but had some recent upgrades, including cable... I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! In case anyone else is wondering, prime bear-watching season begins mid-May and goes until early Fall, when the bears retreat into the woods for acorns. Don't get close, but bring your cameras. They particularly enjoy nibbling on the cherries in mid-summer, so watch out your motel window around dusk. Thanks again for your review. More

Graves Mountain Lodge offers a family-style getaway in a tremendously scenic part of Virginia. I pinched myself each morning when I stepped out the door and saw the slopes and valleys stretching out in front of me. Its a great spot for outdoor activities with friends and family. All this is to say that you might come to the Lodge... More

Thanks for your review. You hit the nail on the head - we're all about beautiful scenery, peaceful, rustic accommodations, and bountiful food. Though not elegant, everything is fresh and made from scratch. We think of ourselves as comparable to a hotel inside the national park: the idea is to be in a quiet place with all the details taken... More
