We came for a weekend of hiking in Shenandoah National Park and stayed in one of the cottages at the lodge. It was quaint, comfortable, rustic, and spotlessly clean. We appreciated the easy access to hiking trails and the ability to bring our dogs for the weekend. We opted for the meals in the lodge, where the food was plentiful... More

We went to Graves Mountain Lodge for a little Get Away, we stayed at the Hilltop, the rooms are modest, and adequate, but the lighting is very poor. The porch was a delight with the rocking chairs & the view of the mountains. The food is family style, and average, nothing to write home about, but it is plentiful. There... More

We camp here w our horses and eat at the lodge. The camping is fantastic, and the meals are delicious! The trails for the horses are quite nice also. A little rocky in places, but very nice ride. It is very quiet and relaxing. No phones service, but that makes it even more relaxing.

The lodge is about 2 hours from Washington DC. The rooms are only okay. The POOL is wonderfully cold. The food is country food, served family style. Wonderful setting near hiking trails, with a small river right below the lodge. Small basketball court. There are festivals here at certain times of the year. No internet tho.

Graves Mountain Lodge remains a long term, venerable get away from city life. It is nestled in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains near tiny Syria, VA. Rooms are modest though comfortable with covered porch and rocking chairs to soak in the spectacular views. Most rooms come with home style breakfast, lunch and dinner included serving local produce and meats.... More

Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay here. It really is a beautiful area to unplug and relax - in fact, President Herbert Hoover built a fishing retreat just down the road and used to come on weekends to get away from the hustle and bustle of DC. Any time you want a good meal or... More

We have been going here for decades. The lodge is composed of several types of lodging from motel style rooms, to small cottages, and two vintage log cabins. Everything is comfortable and rustic. Food is served family style and is tasty and bountiful. Jim and Rachael Graves are great owner/managers along with their sons. Horse riding, swimming pool, lots of... More

Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. You pointed out that the trout streams are kept stocked, and I wanted to expound upon that fact briefly. We have several excellent rivers and streams nearby for trout fishing. Jimmy and anyone at the Syria Mercantile Store will be happy to tell you more about which... More

Just spent 2 nights here with a large family group from DC, Baltimore, MD, Pittsburgh, and Alexandria for reunion and to climb Old Rag Mt in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. We stayed in the first floor of a house, Redwood Suites with our 3 adult children and one finance. Families can take the entire house and they will unlock doors so... More

Thank you for your review! Yes, Old Rag is excellent this time of year and it's good to get an early start. We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us - one of the best things about our place is that it's big enough to accommodate large groups and family gatherings. For those staying in cabins and cooking their own... More

I've been here twice and I truly can't rave enough. This place is just great for exactly what I look for- a quiet, friendly, secluded place in the mountains. I can't describe the feel of the place but to say it's like summer camp: everyone is friendly to everyone and strikes up a conversation at mealtime or just sitting on... More

Way too far from almost anywhere. Met up with friends from D.C. 10 hour drive for me. 4 hours for them. A nice place to eat in a beautiful part of the country - IF you live way closer than I do. I enjoyed the visit, but likely will never again make the long trip to get back there.

Thank you for your review. We're so glad that you enjoyed our food and the views. Many people drive out here specifically for the mountain views. We're within an hour's drive of Fredericksburg, Luray, Charlottesville, and Culpeper. We really are a destination location for meals and lodging. There are some winding country roads in our area, it's true. GPS machines... More

The food was good and plentiful - if you don't have any food restrictions and prefer a traditional diet (meat and two vegetables with plenty of starch and dessert). I wouldn't say it was spectacular or in any way special, but it was hot, plentiful, and tasty. Expect an apple dish or two at every meal. The view from the... More

Thanks for your review. I especially wanted to thank you for your specificity. We can maintain and update the rooms much better when we know precisely what you liked and what you thought could be improved. I'm glad you enjoyed the view - that never gets old! Thanks again, - Front Office Staff More
