Just spent 2 nights here with a large family group from DC, Baltimore, MD, Pittsburgh, and Alexandria for reunion and to climb Old Rag Mt in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. We stayed in the first floor of a house, Redwood Suites with our 3 adult children and one finance. Families can take the entire house and they will unlock doors so... More

Thank you for your review! Yes, Old Rag is excellent this time of year and it's good to get an early start. We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us - one of the best things about our place is that it's big enough to accommodate large groups and family gatherings. For those staying in cabins and cooking their own... More

I've been here twice and I truly can't rave enough. This place is just great for exactly what I look for- a quiet, friendly, secluded place in the mountains. I can't describe the feel of the place but to say it's like summer camp: everyone is friendly to everyone and strikes up a conversation at mealtime or just sitting on... More

Hello, Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. You've nailed it - we're made for people who want to spend most of their time outdoors. Your pros and cons section was really helpful, so thank you for including it. We're getting more and more comments about the breakfast time from people who want to... More

Way too far from almost anywhere. Met up with friends from D.C. 10 hour drive for me. 4 hours for them. A nice place to eat in a beautiful part of the country - IF you live way closer than I do. I enjoyed the visit, but likely will never again make the long trip to get back there.

Thank you for your review. We're so glad that you enjoyed our food and the views. Many people drive out here specifically for the mountain views. We're within an hour's drive of Fredericksburg, Luray, Charlottesville, and Culpeper. We really are a destination location for meals and lodging. There are some winding country roads in our area, it's true. GPS machines... More

The food was good and plentiful - if you don't have any food restrictions and prefer a traditional diet (meat and two vegetables with plenty of starch and dessert). I wouldn't say it was spectacular or in any way special, but it was hot, plentiful, and tasty. Expect an apple dish or two at every meal. The view from the... More

Thanks for your review. I especially wanted to thank you for your specificity. We can maintain and update the rooms much better when we know precisely what you liked and what you thought could be improved. I'm glad you enjoyed the view - that never gets old! Thanks again, - Front Office Staff More

Valentine's Day get away - I had read the reviews, so I knew to ask about amenities or lack thereof. Plan on packing extra stuff like a hair dryer. There is no coffee maker, either. However, if you can make it down to the lodge, there is a coffee maker brewing before breakfast is served. The service was great. The... More

Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed the Valentine's Day music and festivities; we try to make sure that we're booking musicians whom our guests like as much as we do. That group was called the Dark Hollow Band, by the way, and they'll be back to rev up our 4th of July celebration. Good point about the... More

My boyfriend surprised me with a long weekend trip to Graves Mountain Lodge after Thanksgiving and we had a great time. We stayed in Hilltop Motel for two nights and it was the perfect place for a weekend of hiking. Our room was cozy with a television and wifi and the porch had a great view of the mountains. There... Dear Kaitlin S. , Thank you for your review! We appreciate the feedback, as always, and your depiction of our core purpose was spot-on: to provide relaxation, clean but simple rooms, and good food to those who come to enjoy the outdoors. The tip you pointed out is very helpful, especially for first-time guests: ASK about amenities. Wi-fi is provided... More

I stayed in the Poplar Motel for a wedding at the facility which was not just rustic, but stark: very tiny, no closet, no phone, no tv. Wireless was available in some parts of the building but it was pretty unreliable. Since there is absolutely no cellphone signal in the area (a well-known issue), helping to plan last-minute details and... More

Thank you for your review. I am glad that you found the staff to be very nice; we do try to be accommodating, since as you say we are the only large lodging facility in the area. Our pricing can be confusing if you haven't been here before. We have a per-person rate which includes three meals per day. Children... More

We had a great time at Grave's Mountain for their annual fall apple festival. We enjoyed the festival, the bluegrass music and all the activities for the children. We stayed at the lodge which is up the hill from the restaurant. The rooms are advertised as rustic which is fine with us but I think they could definitely use a... More

Was there for a conference this weekend. Stink bugs everywhere. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and spiders and spider webs were everywhere. We were in the Ridgecrest and web site states wifi but no one was able to stay connected in the rooms. Room was dark and musty. I am all for rustic but not dirty. Our sink... More

Based on positive TripAdvisor reviews and a 2014 Certificate of Excellence, we were looking forward to weekend at Graves Mountain Lodge. Upon check-in, we were assigned Ridgecrest room #111. The exterior of the building and room door were covered with stink-bugs. Stink-bugs could also be seen crawling on the window inside the bedroom. Upon entering the dingy, dark, and musty... More
