In town for dog obedience trial (well behaved dogs!). Paid pet fee and given room on 2nd floor in middle of motel. Then told that we were not allowed to bring dogs through the lobby to get to room or to car. Were told to exit out the back (crumbled walkway, no security door) and walk around the courtyard and... more

Stayed at the Quality Inn in Salem Va in October 2008. I was a little apprehensive because of the reviews but found the hotel to be very nice. At check-in the staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and quiet. Plenty of hot water for showers. Continental breakfast was served in a seperate and spacious room. No... more

My wife and I stayed here using a 'free' night from our Choice Hotels points. We arrived late (11:30pm). Had it not been late and the kids tired, we would never have checked in. - Hotel: lobby and hallways were dirty and dingy -- spotted and stained; overall, the hotel had a "grimy" feel to it - Room: old looking... more

Property was older, but clean. No elevator to second floor. Room was older, but ok. Trouble came trying to get a shower. I had heard some older folks at breakfast complaining about the scalding shower. I figured they were just grumpy.. until I tried to get one. It was impossible to adjust: either it was scalding or freezing. In between... more

This hotel is convenient to I 81, but that is about the only convenient thing. It is not close to the nicer part of Salem or Roanoke. The room was fine, but the hallways were dirty and reeked of smoke (my room was non-smoking and was OK). The hotel was a bit loud, thanks to a tour bus group that... more

The facilities have seen better days but the rooms were clean. The staff was friendly. The free breakfast was quite nice the first two days we stayed. The second two days there appeared to be a large group that pretty basically wiped out the breakfast. The hotel did seem prepared for that many people. The air handler fan in both... more

We stayed here on a roadtrip, after seeing it from the highway. Accomodations are fine, but there was a water main break in the morning so there was no running water (i.e. no toilet or shower.) I thought the management could have done more to either make alternate arrangements or offer to comp the room. more

I should have know better than to think a $65 night hotel would be acceptable. Our first room was right next to the back door (which was broken so we did not feel very secure), and spurted disgusting brown water from both the facet and tub. Our second room also came with brown water, but had the added advantage of... more

I stayed at the Quality Inn, Salem in April 2007. I was visiting a friend at nearby Roanoke College. This hotel is in an excellent location, right off of I-81. The hotel looked a bit rundown when looking at the porches and balconies. My room was really nice and had a very comfortable king size bed. The only complaint I... more

I was in the Roanoke/Salem area for a major volleyball tournament with my daughter. This hotel was very convenient to our different playing sites and just off I81. The room was large and clean. The bathroom door had to be closed in order to use the toilet. There was virtually no hot water when I took a shower. (I was... more
