Years ago this was a thriving busy camping ground. We were here in mid Jan when the weather was lovely and it was almost desolate, perhaps only 20% full. We wondered why as it should be full this time of year. The beach here is beautiful, although the surf can be daunting at times. We discovered why - It's expensive... More

Pakiri beach is located at the mouth of the Pakiri river and has a beautiful estuary leading to the sea. The sea isn't the usual east coast Auckland type and even though there's life guards it was a bit wild with a few rips and it'd be best to stay within the flags. The camp is spotless, really well maintained... More

Being the first holiday park we stayed we weren't aware of the price level. They charge a ridiculous $80 for two persons on a stamp sized powered site. The park is dotted with signs prohibiting everything and doesn't feel very welcoming. Only plus is the great beach.

Been here twice, first with my family. And then came back with our whole group for our Christmas camp. We all had a lovely time. Thanks Pakiri team for your hospitality. Your site is managed real well, nice and clean!

Having visited this exceptional beach for over 40 years, I feel I can truly say this is quintessential Kiwi beach side/camping at its best. The holiday park is more than well maintained, with brilliant beach and lagoon to enjoy. Lots to enjoy here, not just the summer weather.

Gorgeous location and empty when we visited in November. If you're unpowered and get there early head for the riverside paddock for a gorgeous view. Two toilet and shower blocks, main one in the centre by a small tent / unpowered area and second by the unpowered paddocks. We paid $15 each (2 adults) for unpowered in November. $3 wash,... More

What a beautiful camp site with sea and river views. This place has camp sites and chalets. Far enough from Auckland but close enough if you need to go back in a hurry. Almost no mobile reception, just what you need to get a break away from the city rush and to relax in the nature. It might be a... More

I was trekking the Te Araroa trail and this was the only lodging option available. Since I was a tramper on Te Araroa I got a special discount rate of $15 a night to pitch my tent. Otherwise, it would have been $25 a night, an unheard of price for sleeping in your own tent. And rip-offs did not stop... More

My wife and I stayed in Snappers Lodge for 4 nights as part of a weeks recharging of our batteries. The Park itself does not surprise, its a popular sea side holiday park with all that entails and our view was that one or two areas could benefit from a little bit of a spruce up and a bit more... we paid $60,- for 2 pax for an unpowered site and we keep asking our self for what. The facilities are ok but basic and the management rather unfriendly. On top of the very expensive price tag we had to pay extra for the shower. The only positive is the location. We will never visit this place again for it... More
