My husband and I were at the Alystone two years ago on our honeymoon and we had really enjoyed our experience. To come back two years later and love it more was no easy feat! Thanks to Marianne and the revamp- the beds are new, the rooms are spotless and everything is conveniently laid out for you in your room.... More

We stayed at Aylstone for 1 night during our driving holiday (from Auckland to Christchurch). On arrival we received a warm & friendly greeting from Marian. We arrived on the day of the Martinborough Village Fair so a short walk to the village square had us in the middle of a huge country fair. Marian had recommended some places for... More

We booked this place for two nights as part of a two week tour round the North Island. We stayed in mainly motels and chose Aylstone because we wanted something different. We booked in September and the booking confirmation stated 'room rate includes gourmet continental style breakfast buffet served in Aylstone private restaurant '. We thought this would be a... More

What a greeting awaited us as this amazing boutique hotel. An idyllic location with our own courtyard over looking the vines of Margrain vineyard..........with the sun shining, the birds singing it is a perfect place to chill and enjoy a relaxing few days. Just a 10 minute walk to the beautiful town centre of Martinborough with its beautiful shops and... More

Wow, what a wonderful place to stay. We had two nights at Aylstone just after a busy New Year. We couldn't have picked a better place to have rest and relaxation. Marilyn welcomed us, she was fountain of local knowledge and nothing was too much trouble. The new owners are doing a wonderful job, the rooms are lovely, complete with... More

A very warm welcome awaits you on arrival at this hotel. My new wife and I spent one night at the hotel whilst en route to Wellington for the New Year - we weren't disappointed, and wished we could have stayed longer. Stunning location and brilliantly appointed room, (we stayed in cologne room). Bed was big, and really comfortable. My... More

Having stayed very recently I just wan to follow up on the last review, the people who took over the running of Aylstone are incredibly lovely, accommodating, attentive, friendly and welcoming. The moment you enter the retreat, you can't help but feel relaxed and laid back. We stayed in a lovely and spacious room which opened up onto a shared... More

I have to say, up front, that Denise and Bruce, the two delightful people running Aylstone when we stayed are moving on. So one just has to hope that the new owners do as well because our one might there was very pleasant. Our downstairs room was perfectly adequate for a one-night stay with the added bonus of an outside... More

The Aylstone is a very comfortable, although not luxurious, accommodation about a mile from the center of Martinborough. We stayed in an upstairs room that was adequate size, very clean but a very small bath. The bed was comfortable. It is in a very pleasant setting among the vineyards. This is more of a B&B than a hotel although priced... More

This is the sort of hotel that you would want to buy and run it yourself. It is a delightful place . The owners are two of the friendliest people we met. It is difficult to express how much my wife and I enjoyed our stay. It was a pity it was so short but if the chance arose for... More
