For a quiet retreat there is nothing that comes close to the Star Hotel, set in a quiet valley in the centre of the old goldfields, it is the ideal place for a few days of rest and recreation. Numerous walks, the old cemetary and the goldmine are all within five minutes of the hotel. Restaurant was very good and... More

Firstly Walhalla itself - what a Gem! Old Gold Mining time that oozes history and Charm - if you arrive at night and plan to leave in the morning you will be disappointed this town needs a good 24hrs at least, having said that I would happily stay longer at the Star - Michael and Russell are the most amazing... The meals in the boutique hotel are wonderful. If you go for no other reason, go for dinner. How they turn out such a great menu with so few guests is amazing. The hotel was expensive but it is in a very remote but gorgeous region so the costs can probably be justified. This was my second stay here in... More

I have just had an amazing and relaxing 2 night stay at the beautiful Star Hotel in Walhalla. Michael and Russell are wonderful hosts and Michael the chef does a scrumptious Salmon with capers and the Duck looked yummy too. The bedroom was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Heating via wall panel and/or inverter ensured the room was warm and... More

Stayed at Walhalla recently. Nothing much changed apart from the excellent STAR hotel that wasn't there when I last visited about 25 years ago! Excellent large rooms (we had one upstairs) with high ceilings, heater plus aircon, small fridge and free tea/coffee and biscuits. Narrow gauge railway down to the Thomson River is a must visit (former "Puffing Billy" style... More

Thank you for your review. I'm sure staying at the Star would have been very different to 25 years ago. You would have needed a tent in those days as there wasn't any accommodation in town. A ride on the railway is a must [OK, I'm a little biased as I'm the President] and just spending time taking in the... More

We recently stayed 2 nights on what is said to be Walhalla's busiest weekend for a long time. The Star Hotel was fabulous! The owners are lovely blokes who know everything about the town and the local area and were happy to assist travellers with all sorts of advice. We had an upstairs room at the back òf the building...spacious,... More

Thank you for your review. Yes Easter is pretty full-on in Walhalla…the Star Hotel however provides a nice source of tranquility from the crowds outside. Even on the busiest weekend on the year it was still quiet. So glad you enjoyed our meals and that your entire stay with us was a most enjoyable one. Russell and I look forward... More

Just back from a few nights at Walhalla"s "Star Hotel". Our room was upstairs overlooking the Rotunda. The room was huge with an en-suite to the side, plenty of hot water but remember the Hotel is on tank-water so be respectful. We dined in the Parker restaurant (Hotel dining room) and found the food most enjoyable with added advantage of... More

Thank you for your review. I'm pleased you enjoyed wandering the walking trails around Walhalla and the train…which is a wonderful attraction for the town. Russell and I are always happy to assist guests with planning their activities in town and filling our guests in on the fascinating history of Walhalla. We look forward to seeing you return in the... We have just come back from five weeks in Australia, and out of the 16 hotels we stayed in this must be one of the best and most interesting, its a ghost mining town and its is wonderful.Don't go there if you are expecting city life, you either get it or you don't, its like going back in time, we all... Thank you for your review. It's a much overused cliche "hidden gem" but in Walhalla's case it's 100% true! I'm so pleased that you consider the Star Hotel to be one of the best hotel you stayed at in Australia, this certainly puts a smile on my face. Walhalla is certainly not the stock standard Australia you see in travel... More

We stayed 3 nights in early March and were welcomed by a friendly staff member who checked us in quickly and showed us to our room which was large and airy, well furnished and equipped and also very clean. The balcony overlooked the main street and the bandstand. The ensuite was spotless with plenty of hot water which is no... More

A Must do Weekend getaway is to Visit this unique Tourist Village town such a hidden Gem surrounded by fabulous mountains and the early morning mist is a sight to behold.
