As is the general consensus, Calverts is staffed by a charming and very helpful team, but the rooms themselves are severely lacking. Granted, the price is low, but there are basic problems which should really be a given in any hotel. We had three rooms - none of them had a shower. Even a mixer would have been a welcome... More

This is a difficult one. On the plus side the bed was clean, the staff was wonderful and the breakfast pretty good. However, I wouldn't stay here again. On arriving we had to push our way in, our 'excuse me' being ignored by the girl sitting on the doorway threshold smoking and the fellow standing next to her smoking. The carpets... More

This is a tired, faded and pretty dreadful place. The fabric of the building and rooms suggests it is about to close! My pal and I were on a cycling trip along the South Coast and this was by a wide margin the worst, and most expensive, of the six places we stayed in during the week. My bedroom window... More

Stayed for one night during September 2014 and was sadly disappointed with many aspects of this hotel. Parking is on street and a short walk from hotel entrance, if you park after 6 pm it's free until 8 am next day, hotel receptionist was very helpful and friendly and the ground floor public areas were clean and well furnished, however... I used to think calverts was cheap and cheerful, and have stayed there many time with my eyes fully open. But this time, it seemed even worse. Very shabby, very dated, particularly the bathroom which was just grotty. Probably won't go back again, because it isnt even that cheap anymore since breakfast is not included in the room rate, and... More

I read a few poor reviews and was a little skeptical and concerned as I am a mother of 3 (2 age 2 and under one of which is disabled) and a 6 year old and I was travelling alone with all 3 kids!! When I arrived and found the double buggy fitted through the door that was a good... More

Although the staff are very polite and efficient unfortunately the rooms need to be updated. The first room we stayed in was very small and like a sauna. The bathroom only had a hand held shower which we later found was a bonus as the second room we had only had a bath. The door to get into the room... More

Stayed for one night. On the arrival the staff was very kind, polite & helpful! The rest was quite disappointing. Disadvanteges: - No shower in the bathroom; just a bathtub - Old, outdated rooms, curtains, etc. - Spiderwebs and spiders in the corners Advantages: - When complained, the receptionist swiftly relocated us in a 'shower-fit' bathroom; however, there was not...
