The best price and the closest hotel in Newport has a pub and a pool table downstairs. The food is simple but well prepared and served by a French Chef who is a lovely person. Staff are polite and friendly, rooms are big and has the main facilities that you can expect from a budget hotel.

Booked here an hr before hand as the original place we had booked into in Ventner was diabolical! Location is great, right in the town center and within walking distance to the shops/bars and restaurants. Tall ceilings, bed comfy - however rooms were far too hot with no option to turn the heating off, mould on corners of the walls... More

Good food , great location in the centre of town, but noisy at weekend evenings. The air of faded gentility and no heating mean there needs to be a lot of money spent on the building. Shame really. History and location could make it stunning.

I could only get this hotel add it was Bestival time. Good points. Staff were great and very friendly and helpful. Location. Bad points. Room. Dated and old. Bed. Unclean and rolled across the floor when you sat on it. Bathroom. Grubby and no shower. Dirty carpet. Shaver light flickered on and off. Furniture. Old and grubby. Door. Couldn't lock... More

Very shabby much in need of refreshment. Parking is a nightmare and hotel staff seem to know nothing about parking. Rooms apparently all have baths - we were told there were no rooms with showers. Mattresses are fine but the bases seem to wobble - jelly like. Breakfast adequate but overpriced. Never saw a customer in the empty bar. Its... More

Friendly staff but reception had a very damp smell to it, the room had a good sized TV and tea and coffee making facilities, towels and sheets were fresh both days however the bed had a plastic mattress protector which made you sweat. There was a bath/shower mixer but there was no wall attachment so you had to hold the... More

Booked this last minute as it was the only hotel with rooms available for the BH weekend in Newport. This is a very basic, budget hotel but we expected that, having read trip advisor reviews! Reasonably clean (ignoring the cobwebs) with dated furniture and an antiquated ensuite bathroom! The hotel is an ode to the 1970's which is when it... More

Arrived here as a base for Bestival after a long journey from Spain. Although the location was good, in the center of Newport, the hotel is very run-down and in severe need of renovation, the room smelled very musty and wasn't cleaned well, horribly scummy bath not cleaned well at all. Not what I needed after 11 hours travel. The... More

Stayed for three nights here during Cowes week. Prices all over the island seemed to be inflated at this time. Calverts is easy to find but there is no parking. You have to use pay and display on the street. The room was clean and not too musty smelling considering the fact that the window sash cord was broken and... More
