Booked before I read any reviews; but no real regrets. 3 nights for 2 people, FULL proper, freshly cooked 'English' PLUS return ferry from Southampton £198. That is less than £33 each for a hotel in the centre of Newport. Staff helpful and friendly. Dining room could do with central heating. Room 9 OK, comfortable and warm; bathroom needs a... More

What a mare! After travelling overnight to the Isle of Wight we arrived at the hotel rather tired, and in need of a nice refreshing shower (or even a bath) before heading off to the Inter County Darts Match we were there for. We checked in and made our way to our room up two flights of stairs, with different... More

This was a shame, like others we had to pay on booking (very unusual!) and on arrival I wondered if we'd gone to the right place. It was deserted. The girl on reception was very helpful though - advised on best place to park, the hotel have nothing! Very fast on checkin. Our room, though spacious was quite gloomy. One... More

My son and I had hiked from Ryde to Newport, and now we had to hike around the town to find accommodation. We found the Calverts Hotel from directions given by another hotel which was full, and our immediate thought was that it was old and neglected. Old it certainly is, nearly 3 centuries old in fact, and we had... More

This hotel should be closed down. It smells , the bath rooms are disgusting. The whole place is depressing. Had to pay when we booked over the phone, would have gone home on next ferry otherwise. Should not be aloud to take peoples money that they have worked for

I'm sorry to report that the Calverts Hotel is a shabby, old fashioned hotel with poor services! I stayed there on 26th/27th July 2013 and was disappointed in soooo many ways. Room size...not large. Room Décor.....1970s. Ensuite....really shabby, very slow hot water flow, miniature sink, no shower. Services....well....what services? Breakfast didn't start until 8am because the chef wasn't in before... More

My partner and I stayed here during the Isle of Wight Festival and I was a bit concerned having read some of the other reviews about this hotel on the site. However, the hotel was fine. It's an old, rambling building and its decor is a bit tired and in places in need of refurbishment. However it was clean, the... More

My friend and I used this hotel to go to the Isle Of Wight Festival, as we did not wish to camp in the fields at our age (50's) . The staff were all very nice and friendly which high on my list. The breakfast was quite adequate , I particularly enjoyed the perfectly cooked poached eggs! Also I have... More
