We found the Hotel De Fortuna through both TripAdvisor and Rick Steves Amsterdam guidebook. The hotel is small but is in an excellent location to explore Edam and the bike paths of Northern Holland. Rooms are charming and very clean with a distinctive Dutch flair. We booked on very short notice during the very busy dinner hour. The owner called... More

We stayed 2 nights on a cycling holiday. The food at dinner was absolutely excellent - the flavour of the steak was superb and perfectly cooked. The rest of the meal was equally good. Breakfast was a varied buffet, and the best we had in 4 hotels in the Netherlands. The room was comfortable and a good size, with some... More

I rented a tiny, single room at the top of steep stairs. It felt very much like my room at Grandma's house. My bed seemed child-sized and covered with a patchwork quilt. The room was small, but the bathroom was full-size and included a huge tub. I shared the space with my black Labrador and between the two of us,... More

This hotel is charming! We arrived very late and he stayed up waiting for us, they are very accommodating. The hotel was clean and cozy. The decor in our room was very traditional dutch all the way down to the quilts. Its not a modern hotel, so don't expect modern...expect it to look like your in a "dutch" town. The... More

Stayed as part of an organised cycling trip for 2 nights. Room choice was clean and tidy but a little dated (this was down to the basic option chosen by the organising company). Looked at other rooms with river views and definitely would have paid the extra, unfortunately all taken when we were there. Hosts and staff very friendly and... More

I would really recommend this hotel, it was so cosy and pretty, like a little chocolate box. The staff are really friendly and the restaurant is vey good, only 25 mins on a bus from Amsterdam. The only thing that let it down was that there wasn't enough bread at breakfast if you came later than 8:30.

We came to Edam for an afternoon and found this hotel next to the canal. We only stopped for a drink and a snack as we wandered around this picturesque place. We had coffee and some Bitterballen they are really tasty, I also tried some ginever or old gin, which doesn't need to have a mixer . Looking at the... More

We visited Edam and Volendam and stayed in this hotel for one night. It was in such a picturesque location situated between canals and charming little shops. The hotel was clean, homey, warm and inviting. One of the owners spent considerable time chatting with us which was really nice. I'd highly recommend it to everyone!

We stayed for one night and we love it. Dinner was very good. We felt like "home". The town of Edam is very nice and the sensation we felt was peace. The hotel is composed by several typical houses, surrounded by the canals and a beautiful garden.

I can't say enough good things about this place! If you like a unique and friendly experience, this hotel is for you. Having stayed for 4 nights at the historic and charming Hotel de Fortuna, any place else just seems so ordinary. The property dates back 400 years; so, you expect the room size to be small. But surprisingly there... More
