Stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights. Paid a very good rate of 67 Euros including breakfast. As stated previously there is not a lot to do around the hotel itself, although a big shopping mall is adjacent with a cinema. Didn't try the gym next door which is 6 Euros a day and looked pretty good. Rooms are large, modern and clean. The mini bar is reasonably priced for a change! The... more

This Mercure hotel sits on the south bank, next to the bypass road. Realistically, as the crow flies, it's not that far to Porto or to the Vila Nova de Gaia port lodges. Once one figures out the maze of on-off ramps near the highway and the Arrabida bridge, it's a great find. It's also next to huge Arrabida Shopping, which offers decent eating options and great views of the city. The room was super... more

We stayed at the Mercure in Vila Nova de Gaia for a week in late July. The hotel is perfectly located if you have a car, because it has free parking, access to all the main roads in and around Porto, and is just across the river from the Ribeiro, the Foz, and all that Porto has to offer. The staff were brilliant...really helpful with everything we asked for, including local history. We were given... more

I've stayed for a week in this hotel. It has 4 stars, the room is big enough, the bathroom is more than big enough, everything is clean and the stuff is polite and helpful. However, 130euros/night for a double room is a lot for what is has to offer. And let me explain why: For the business traveler it has some conference rooms, a nice looking bar, but that's about all. It's location is far... more

Execellent hotel and very modern with a very beautiful theme "Oporto Wine". Good location to visit the city, next to a nice shopping mall "Arrábida". The staff is very friendly and helpfull. Also the rooms are great, clean and confortable. You must absolutly try the small and intimate dinner lounge - great decor. And for thr fitness lovers, there's a fitness centre next door more

This is a pleasant, modern hotel with helpful, English-speaking staff and plenty of parking space. The weekend rates are very good value and the breakfast buffet was extremely good as well as being inexpensive. We ate dinner on one occasion and can recommend both the duck and the venison. A couple of minor criticisms might be the lack of an opening window in the room and the slow service in the bar. The hotel is... more

I Loved the this hotel, with fabulous decor. The Oporto Wine is a great inspiration for that. The staff is very kind and dedicated, the breakfast was very complete and delicious. ...And after all that good stuff, the fitness club with a great swimming pool and jacuzzi is just next door, with only 1 € for hotel's residents. For the ones that like to shopping, there are one just in front. No need to get... more

The Mercure Hotel Nova Vila de Gaia is situated next to the largest shopping center of Northern Portugal. It is surrounded by motorways and can only be reached by car. A taxi is advisable if you want to visit Porto or the port whine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. The hotel itself offers the expected amenities of a four star hotel of the Mercure chain. The breakfast was above average (except the scrambled eggs)... more

Just back from 3 days in fantastic Porto. The Hotel is nice and very clean. Great location near a large shopping centre. A bit difficult to reach Porto centre. Food good. Watch out for the kids drink...We were charged (before complaining to the Duty Manager, then to the Director!) 5.25 for a grenadine, ie the same as "long drinks". more
