This was one of the best places we stayed during our two weeks in Portugal. The view from our private patio - outside of our room - was of the lovely grounds and the terraced hills in the distance. (I had actually seen a photo taken from the same patio which was featured in a New York Times article on... more

We just completed our second stay at the Casa within five months and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. This is a hidden gem in the gorgeous Douro Valley region of Portugal. I refer to the Casa as "The blood pressure clinic," because your blood pressure and pulse will both drop several points upon arrival. Owner Ursula... more

From the moment Adelaide greeted us at the door, until the time we said farewell to Ursula, we relished the calm, relaxed and trusting approach shown by the special little touches at every corner both outside and in. Molly and Cookie (resident dogs) added to the homely atmosphere. Attention to detail was carried through to an unobtrusive service at meal... more

This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in... As soon as we arrived we were looked after extremely well. My wife is vegetarian and this was not a problem. Normally food is always a problem in europe as most countries do not cater for vegetarians. The hotel is beautiful with perfect surrounding so we spent most of... more

Arrived a bit after noon. Drove from Spain thru the backroads. I do not find the roads difficult and traffic arround here is very light. Roads are a bit narrow, but not dangerous. If driving to this "hotel", take a LEFT after crossing the river from Pinhao (there is a nice restaurant on the right just after crossing the bridge).... more

It felt like visiting old friends, who just happen to live in the most beautiful villa. You will feel spoiled and pampered. The room was fabulous, with a decanter of port which we drank on our private patio; the pool was glorious; the outdoor kitchen stocked with drinks for your choosing (honor system) was convenient and really made you feel... more

Of all the hotels we stayed in in our 2 week trip along the Douro, this place was by far the most memorable and enjoyable. We were welcomed by Adelaide, who could not have been more kind and generous in looking after us. The rooms were nestled amongst beautifully kept gardens. The rooms were clean and spacious and the the... more

There can not be a better place to enjoy the Douro Valley. We were treated like old friends visiting after a long time apart. From the moment you enter you are shown the honesty bars, kitchen, pool, and other common areas and for the entire stay you feel at home. We were a bit concerned at first at the location... more

The somewhat tricky ride up the moutnain road was worth every bit as we were welcomed through the doors of Chanceleiros. The views into the Douro River valley, the mountains across the way, the spectacular gardens with flowers everywhere, the spacious well-appointed rooms were all topped off by a staff so welcoming and friendly that we felt they were a... more

This hotel is a real gem! The rooms are extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. They are clustered in attractive small buildings around the pool, and each room has its own patio or terrace with table and chairs for sitting out and enjoying the view. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. We found the complimentary carafe of port wine in... more
