This truly a treasure. The palace is beautiful with incredible views of the gardens. There is a forest to explore with views from the top of the mountain. Wear good walking shoes. Dinner was delicious and so was breakfast in the breathtaking dining room.

The rooms are in a desperate need of renovation. We stayed supposedly in a superior room, and even so I was so glad that we were going to be there only for 1 night. It smell badly (I think it was due to the curtains…), and although I opened all the windows, the odd smell didn’t disappeared. We decided not... More

Surprised by the surroundings and the architecture shocked by the state of the rooms , rooms are shabby and very very old don't match the beauty of the exterior which is amazing and so is the park But having said we had a great stay the service is good , some personnel needs to smile a bit more thou

Our stay in Bussaco is a story of "extremes". We had been given the hint to go to Bussaco by a person that we totally trusted and that had been there in the past, and had a wonderful experience. We were quite hyped by this, because the tales of the hotel, the palace, the gardens were rather strong and we... More

We spent a night here while touring Portugal. It was absolutely amazing. It was my husband and I and our two girls. We had a very gorgeous room with a wrap around balcony that overlooked the gardens. We fell in love with this place! Spent hours hiking in the forest and walking every trail and then finished up with the... More

We decided to stay here for one night due to a generous review from Lonely Planet, but the "delightfully ostentatious" description did not turn out to be appropriate. As others have pointed out, the 1907 palace environs seem to have missed much of the previous and current century as it struggles from a lack of upgrading the infrastructure. This is... More

Our family loved our time at Bussaco. The staff was overly welcoming and helpful. The grounds were breathtaking and a nature lovers dream. We wished we had more time to discover all of them. The hotel was magnificent. We loved the food. Although it was an exceptionally fine dining experience, they were fine with jeans and shorts for the meals.... More

This is a very special and romantic place, a former summer residence from the Portugese royals. Thought the hotel is just100 years old and sort of 'kitsch', it's all beaufiful done and not too much and history of the place is interesting. Beautiful azulejos (typical Portugese blue tiles) all around, with scenes of the historic Napoleon war at this mountain.... More

This was our second time visiting the palace hotel. Both times were wonderful, the rooms were great, with very large bathrooms. The food was wonderful. The service was wonderful, they even made our daughter a wonderful birthday cake. The castle can be busy during the day with all the tourists, but it is quiet and magical at night. There are... We didn't actually stay there but just wanted to have a look inside as the outside is fabulous, however...outside the reception door, it said, no visitors allowed in order not too disrupt our guests...just struck us as unfriendy and unpersonable...first hotel ever that I've seen that doesn't allow a "peek"
