If you appreciate history and true palatial grandeur, then you will feel at home here. As you drive up to the main building, you aren't quite sure if you are really in the right place and then, "bam" the reveal happens and you see for yourself that the pictures did not lie. Inside is a little bit worn, but that... More

It´s an incredibly beautiful place, with nice staff. It´s a real Palace that anyone should experience once in a lifetime, so worth for the experience. For a 5 star hotel is lacking confort and supporting services. Negative- the lack of maintenance of the heating system in general. This means that the noise in some rooms can be extremelly anoying during... More

The amenities, service and room furnishings are almost comically bad for a 5-star hotel, and in no respect measure up to this category except in pretension. That said, it is a privilege to stay in this building. While an appreciation for camp helps (an example being the knight in full armor on the grand stairs with lit up eyeballs), I... More

Definitely worth splurging to stay here. The palace and gardens are awe-inspring. Had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant, including some of the estate's own wine. Service staff was efficient and professional (if not terribly friendly). Our room was neither big nor luxurious but the rest of the surroundings made up for it. Leave time to explore the many walking... More

Driving through the 2 lane road in some kind of forest, suddenly a fabulous building appears. Although seeing pictures of this hotel before, the fabulous building still gave us a big surprise. Greeting by the decent front desk staff, the concierge lead us to our room through an old elevator which need to push the door manually. Walking through the... More

Hearing that I was about to visit Portugal, a friend said that I must, absolutely must, stay a night in the Bussaco Palace Hotel. On that basis I reserved a room and got off the train between Lisbon and Porto at the Pampilhosa station. This was like stepping off the train in an old western movie into nowhere. No people,... Bussaco Palace Hotel is beautiful and majestic. There are a few things to improve, but overall it's a great place to stay. Positive: The ambient, really like a palace. The surroundings, with gardens and fantastic walks nearby. The service, seems like they are a family, and make us feel too. The breakfast, with variety, great bread, expresso,... The restaurant was... More

Quirky, historical, charismatic, but ultimately deeply disappointing. Even Wellington would have been saddened....and his people fought and died for a better Portugal. Someone with vision could turn this into a Palace, but at present it's a relic...

This wonderful palace with amazing architecture in a stunning forest offers rooms at surprisingly low prices when you consider the unique setting. We paid 95 euros for a double room with breakfast. But like other reviewers, we found the room rather poor quality compared with the surroundings. We're glad we stayed there but don't expect luxury for 95 euros. The... More
