Hotel is nice. Location in the Bussaco forest is nice. Gardens are nice and well maintained. Breakfast was very good. Worth looking around inside. The room we stayed in could use a little TLC, some cracks in the walls etc. good for one night as location is quite remote.

Beautiful location, gardens, buildings and forest. Don't miss traveling in the forest's paths, climbing to the cross and the observation point. Worth spending at least half a day exploring the forest along the paths. The food at the restaurant was excellent, both dinner and breakfast.

The Bussaco Palace is one of Portugal's most famous Palace hotels, and it is truly worth the trip. The gardens and grounds are open to the public who pay just to be able to wonder through the forest, but it's all part of the experience when you stay here. It is simply a very beautiful place that's a piece of... More

On the outside the architecture and gardens are beautiful - on the inside it is tired, worn out, and seriously outdated. The front desk staff honestly doesn't have the slightest interest in providing "5 star" service. It is clear that the money going into the hotel goes to maintain the gardens and not the rooms. This is a nice side... More

After reading so many mixed reviews we decided to stop for lunch on 30th April. Arriving by car we had to pay 5 euros just to enter the hotel grounds! The drive up to the Palace Hotel is stunning and the common areas of the hotel are fabulous. Lunch in the incredible dining room was very good and after a... More

Stopped here for lunch while on a road trip and it was definitely a highlight. We did not stay in the hotel but enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the grounds and having a delicious lunch on the terrace overlooking the grounds. We felt like royalty.

Architecture is fantastical and historic. Walking around is taking a trip back through time. Rooms are tired and threadbare. Feels like camping in a palace. Really needs some investment on the inside as well as more help as it is tough to get attention here.

This property is outstanding. A very well preserved piece of yesteryear. The drive through the forest with the eucalyptus aroma is the beginning of a journey of sights and sounds. When the hotel comes into view it is breathtaking and the surrounding grounds are the same. Spend time walking through the gardens and enjoying the various blooms. The hotel is... More

Bussaco's architecture is way over-the-top, in the tradition of Neuschwanstein Castle or the Houses of Parliament and almost as grand as either. There is something absurd about it - part of the charm - but it is also very beautiful. The room rate is excellent value considering the rarity of the experience. It may be in need of a little... I can honestly say I have never stayed in an hotel like this before. It is pointless making comparisons, it´s truly one of a kind. We were lucky to be staying midweek, off season, which made for an atmospheric stay - a little reminiscent of the Overlook Hotel. In the nicest possible way!!! The cavernous & beautiful public rooms are... More
