Atmosphere is just wonderful, building is magnificent. Best white wine i drank in Portugal, my room was spacious and had a very comfortable old-fashioned bed and furnishings. Some people might say a little shabby, but i don't mind that. Lovely big bath...The restaurant is beautiful, and the forest walks are magical, i loved it.

The hotel is suited in charming area surrounded by fabulous landscape. It is a state of art architecture. The breakfast is delicious. However, the bathroom is very old and in our case it was leaking. Also the WiFi service is poor and limited to the halls. It deserve 4 star at most.

The main building of the hotel as well as the reception & dining areas are very impressive as feel more like a castle than a palace which is amazing. However, the guest premises definitely need the renovation. They are old and worn out - not a historical atmosphere. We were disappointed by the absence of the refrigerator and conditioner in... Yes, rooms are tired and need of investment but we had great time in hotel and in the gardens so would recommend. Room: nice view of woods, warm in winter, some paint peeling off window frames/skirting boards, couple small bleach stains on carpet, tiny TV, no fridge, marbled bathroom with huge bath (great for sharing long hot soaking bath with... Superb opportunity and value for money that is sadly unappreciated by everybody who complains about some irrelevant, minor details that "spoil" their snooty 5-star expectations. Thank god this place is a tiny bit rundown, which adds great charm and lets us, who actually can appreciate it, appreciate it affordably! Thank god this place is so full of character and isn't... I only came to the Palace to have an afternoon tea, so my review will be short. The service was not perfect, the rooms were not so clean. The big glass on the stairway hall was partially broken. We asked for toasts and cake. The cakes were clearly from 1 or 2 days before and the bread was terrible.

Our small group tour had the good fortune to stay here. It was chosen by our tour company for its history, serene natural surroundings and unique architecture. We took advantage of the trail walks, enjoyed a guided tour of the wine cellar, and slept well in the aging, yet comfortable rooms. The hotel is a real palace and we were... More

It is a very old hotel built in the XIX to be an hotel. It is so beautiful like a palace in the middle of a marvellous park and surrounded by french gardens. It is near Coimbra. It was built in a portuguese «manuelino» style. The rooms are a little old fashioned but the hotel worth a visit.

... and it IS most beautiful. Yes, it needs more maintain, but what you get for (sometimes very small money) is a real jewel in the middle of a beautiful forest park with REAL flair. My heart stood still when I first saw that most beautiful huge palace with its many gargoyles and pinnacles and beat fast when I explored... More

Bottom line: I wish we had gone for the day and had lunch but stayed elsewhere. On TA I saw people's photos of flaking paint and thought "big deal" that won't bother me ...so we booked for one night while driving from Porto to Lisbon. The palace and grounds are a wonder of the world !! The hotel is like... More
