I reviewed the Tazewell Hotel in January 2014 to say how wonderful it was...unfortunately, after my recent stay earlier this week, I feel the need to point out some ways in which the Tazewell is no longer the "gem" it was a year or so ago. The building is certainly still very quaint, but overall it seems to have sustained... More

Was moved to this hotel, because something happened at the other I booked nearby. Right in the center of downtown, on the corner and across from 2 restaurants and housing another. Parking in secure deck behind building. 15- minute parking on street to check in and bring luggage in. Early 1900's building, so expect that it's got date isues. Small... More

A very nice older hotel right in the heart of things. The room was clean. We didn't wait for anything or anyone. We were able to check right in. The 4th floor is a smoking floor. Restaurant right in the hotel. Amazing!!!! Sad to see it close at the end of next month. It is a gem that will be... More

Where do I start? We checked in, an hour after check-in, and were told our room wasn't ready yet. We sat in the lobby area and waited, only to be told 30 seconds later (after some mumbling between staff) that our room WAS ready. Once we got up to the room, we had a good idea why one might not... This was a wonderful old hotel. It was old but head great character. It was clean and our room was huge. The staff was vet friendly and helpful. Few things though no free parking. Either pay fifteen dollars per day for garage or meter parking. It is in down town in a great atmosphere within walking distance of anything. During... More

I knew it was old, but I love old hotels. The problem with this one is that it is old, dark and very depressing. Our room seemed clean, but I can't be sure because it was so dark inside, even with all the lights on. The lobby and hallways were very hot and stuffy. The elevator appears to be the... More

Two words - "I'm sorry" would make an agonizing experience at least bearable. Disappointingly, after checking into a room at 9 at night - two babies and wife in tow - we're greeted by 85 degrees and the aroma of mildew. After calling concierge, Serena informs us that she is aware that the AC units aren't cooling and just to... More

Some of the reviews on here make me scratch me head - did you really think you were going to get a flawless hotel in such a great location for $100 a night less than every other downtown hotel? If you want to stay at a GREAT LOCATION for much less $$ than the chain hotels in DT Norfolk, then... More

Spent last weekend at The Tazewell in downtown Norfolk. The location was fantastic, we were able to walk everywhere! However, we will NEVER stay there again. Granted, it's a MUCH older hotel, and, generally speaking, we LIKE older, non- chain accommodations. We love the architecture, the fixtures, the craftsmanship. What we DID NOT live at The Tazewell: Our room was... More

I read all of the reviews. I usually take them with a grain of salt as some people are very particular about things, more so than myself. I have stayed in several old hotels in New Orleans and personally I prefer the "quirky" establishment as compared to the sterile chain hotels. That being said, I truly tried to like this... More
