The hotel sits next to the railway line and overlooks the Rhine - the views are great, and if like me, you're a closet trainspotter - it's brilliant! The welcome was warm, and the hotel was surprisingly comfortable - albeit with a slightly unusual mix of decor. Combining 20th Century German with chintz Filipino is not quite my thing, but... more

We spent two nights at the hotel Kranenturm, arriving very early in the morning. Our hostess, Fatima, was most accommodating and hospitable. She insisted that we have some coffee and juice; and, when we returned from a brief walk in the town, encouraged us to take a much-needed nap before any further adventuring! Her husband, Kurt, is an excellent chef!... more

Although the owner/hostess Fatima was lovely and gracious, the interior of the Hotel Kranenturm needs some cleaning and updating. Our room was small, and the decor was somewhat dingy and outdated. We had a room that faced the front of the building, so we didn't have to worry about the train noise. Breakfast consisted of some sad looking meats, cheeses,... more

Walked in with no reservations and casually dressed....Fatima the hostess was quite friendly and we were seated at a comfortable table. Others were dining and noticed mostly Americans (did they read the Rick Steves book too??) The book recommendation was to try the sauerbrauten and indeed, it was incredible. I ordered local red wine which was sublime and of super... more

I cannot imagine anyone wh would not be 100% pleased with the location, value, and service of this wonderful historical hotel. My wife and I stayed in the Tower Room---one window overlooked the Rhine and the other the town streets and the castle! Breakfast was varied and the dinner selection was just right with an opportunity to sample various traditional... more

When we travel, we seek out lodging that is unusual, quirky and sports local flavor. This hotel selection was based on both Rick Steves and Trip Advisor reviews and unfortunately fell far short of satisfactory. We were given the only room on the ground floor, "room 01" which was a newly added room sharing a corridor with the restaurant toilettes,... more

Our family stayed two nights at Hotel Kranenturm. We needed two rooms, one for the wife and me and one for our two teenagers. We all had a great time. My wife and I were in the large tower room with a view of the river and a view of the castle. It was wonderful. After reading about the trains,... more

I only stayed in Bacharach for one night with two of my friends. We arrived by KD boat which was made our long day of trains so much better. We easily found Hotel Kranenturm and were brought to our rooms. Our room was one of the tower rooms, it was very close to the train tracks but when the trains... more
